INDIANAPOLIS -- Harrison Williams wins USATF Athlete of the Week after he set an American Junior record and a meet record in the decathlon at Pan Am Junior Championships in Edmonton with his score of 8,037 points to eclipse the previous record of 8,018 set by Gunnar Nixon in 2012.

Williams (Memphis, Tennessee) won six events, including 100m (10.67), long jump (6.98m/22-11), high jump (2.03m/6-8), 400m (48.28) on day one.

“I had a great first day. I had a [day one] PR at 4,182, but it wasn’t until about the last 400 meters in the 1,500m that I realized I had a chance at the American Junior record,” Williams said.

Williams’ day two included victories in the 110mH (14.41) and pole vault (5.00m/16-5), while also setting a new PR in the 1,500m, crossing in 4:29.20.

“This means a lot,” Williams said. “...A lot of the athletes [who] have been named Athlete of the Week are the guys you see at the Olympics; it [is] a great honor.”

Other notable performances this week include:

●  Vashti Cunningham (Las Vegas, Nevada) tied the World Youth Best along with setting an American Junior record and a U.S. high school record with her 1.96m/6-5 clearance in the high jump at the Pan American Junior Championships in Edmonton.

●  JaCorian Duffield (Schertz, Texas) won his first Diamond League meeting in the high jump at Stockholm, clearing 2.32m/7-7.25.

●  Norman Grimes (Canyon, Texas) continued a tremendous month of accolades becoming a Pan Am Juniors double gold medalist in Edmonton after winning the 400-meter hurdles in the 50.10 and dominating the third leg on the U.S. 4x400m relay team.

●  Katie Mackey (Seattle, Washington) set a lifetime best of 8:52.99 to win the 3000m in Stockholm. It was her first ever Diamond League meeting victory.
