SEATTLE – Greg Skipper broke his own school record in the weight throw at the UW Invitational, Friday, wrapping up the first of two days at the Dempsey Indoor Facility.
Skipper set a big personal best on his third attempt recording a distance of 70-10.50 (21.60m), beating his previous record by more than two and a half feet and winning the event by more than five feet. The mark ranks fifth in the NCAA this season.
Mitch Modin leads the group of Oregon men’s heptathletes in a tie for second after the first day of competition. Modin currently has 3,045 points through four events which started with a personal best in the 60-meter dash to start the day (7.05).
Joining Modin were Alec Fellows, Blake Kemp and Joe Delgado who will enter the second day in ninth, 10th and 12th, respectively.
Brittany Mann finished sixth in the women’s weight throw with a toss of 57-11.75 (17.67m) on her final attempt.
Ashlee Moore finished 10th in the women’s pentathlon after she stumbled over a hurdle in the first event of the day.  The freshman did bounce back later in the day, setting a personal best in the long jump of 19-4.25 (5.90m).
Oregon will be back in action, Saturday starting with the men’s heptathlon at 9:45 a.m.
