Huddle Repeats, Shrader Upsets at .US National 12K

INDIANAPOLIS (Nov. 16, 2014) - A furious early pace by Olympian Molly Huddle split the pack early, while a tenacious finish by Brian Shrader put a gap on the field late, but the end result was the same, as both took home top prize Sunday morning at the .US National 12K in Alexandria, Virginia.

An opening first mile in 5:09 gave Huddle a clear edge early, as the U.S. 5,000m record holder on the track showed her speed from a long racing season was still sharp. From the gun, Huddle strung out the pack and by the first mile the lead group was a mere seven athletes.

By the time Huddle hit the second mile split, the pack found itself a group of five, as Providence College standout Emily Sisson, Olympian Kim Conley, Sara Hall and Emily Infeld stayed with the pace. Mile by mile Huddle continued to run even splits and by the half way turnaround, she cleared the field and put over ten seconds on then second place runner Hall.

Over the final 5K of Sunday's race, Huddle showed why she's one of the best runners in the world, keeping relaxed form and eyes forward. The early pace didn't slow Huddle and in the final strides before hitting the finish tape, she flashed a smile, taking home her second consecutive .US National 12K title in 38:07.

William Prom "Blows Away'' Inaugural Avengers Super Heroes Half Marathon Field

ANAHEIM, Calif. (Nov. 16, 2014) - William Prom won the inaugural Avengers Super Heroes Half Marathon on Sunday, slaying a field of more than 10,500 runners and a challenger he couldn't even see - the wind.

On a blustery morning at Disneyland Resort when winds gusted up to 22 mph, Prom of Irvine, Calif., outran the field, but battled a stiff breeze, especially down the stretch, to win the debut event. His time of 1 hour, 14 minutes, 17 seconds was more than a minute ahead of second-place finisher Fernando Blanco of Encintas, Calif. (1:15:46). Adam Henry of Santa Monica, Calif., was third (1:17:21).

Alex de la Huerta of Mexico was the first female to cross the finish line (1:22:42), easily outrunning Kellie Nickerson (1:25:54) of Albuquerque, NM who was second, and
Lauren Reasoner (1:26:03) of Sahuarita, Ariz. who was third. Huerta, 24, seemed just as happy about winning as she was about just being here.

"It was awesome,'' said Huerta, who won an Avengers-themed race in Mexico to go with her Avengers race win at Disneyland on Sunday. "Running here in California where it's relaxed and beautiful, and running here at Disneyland? I mean, you can't ask for something more than running and being at the Happiest Place on Earth.''

Inaugural 2015 Milwaukee Running Festival Unveiled

MILWAUKEE, Wis. - Chris Ponteri, Executive Director of Milwaukee Marathon, Inc., announced the inaugural Milwaukee Running Festival, an annual, three-day event consisting of a marathon, half-marathon, 5K and one mile race. All races will be staged entirely within the city of Milwaukee, and will take place Oct. 30 to Nov. 1, 2015.
Wednesday morning, the Milwaukee Public Works Committee approved a resolution authorizing city officials to work with Ponteri and his team to draft and finalize an operating agreement between the city and Milwaukee Marathon, Inc. This cleared the way for organizers to officially announce the event's name, Milwaukee Running Festival, and to preview plans for the inaugural event.

The festival will feature the first marathon to be routed entirely through the city of Milwaukee's marathons and landmarks, allowing participants to experience the city in a unique way.

"We're excited to be able to showcase the neighborhoods and landmarks that make Milwaukee such a vibrant place to live," said Ponteri. "This event will attract people from all over the country, and offer a unique experience to runners of all ages, experience levels and abilities."
