Keith Conning: We moved from Vacaville to Pleasanton in January 2015 after living in Vacaville since December 1999. This will be my first time voting in Pleasanton. The first election I was able to vote in was in 1962. I turned 21 on March 16, 1962. I was a student at the University of California in Berkeley.

The California gubernatorial election, 1962 was held on November 6, 1962. The Democratic incumbent, Pat Brown, ran for re-election against former Vice President Richard Nixon. In his concession speech, Nixon accused the media of favoring his opponent Brown, famously stating it was his "last press conference" and "You won't have Dick Nixon to kick around any more."[1] Six years later, Nixon would go on to be elected President of the United States.

Pat Brown was the father of our current Governor Jerry Brown. I had the same kindergarten teacher as Jerry Brown. Mrs. Pon taught at West Portal Elementary School in San Francisco. Jerry Brown was born on April 7, 1938 and I was born on March 16, 1941. He lived in Forest Hills and I lived in the Sunset District.
