Tegenkamp Repeats, Peyton Wins at USA 20K Championships

INDIANAPOLIS (Sept. 2, 2013) - With strong competition from start to finish, U.S. Olympian Matt Tegenkamp(Portland, Ore.) and Team USA Minnesota's
Meghan Peyton (Richfield, Minn.) used strong final miles to pull away from their competition and win the men's and women's USA 20K Championships Monday
morning in New Haven, Connecticut, hosted by the
Stratton-Faxon New Haven Road Race.


The USA 20K Championships are the eighth stop on the USA Running Circuit, which concludes this fall with the .US National Road Racing Championships on Sunday, November 17 in historic Alexandria, Virginia. The top ten finishers at each race on the circuit qualify to compete in the .US National Road Racing Championships.

Rutto, Higuchi Win 13th Rock 'n' Roll Virginia Beach Half Marathon


VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (Sept. 1, 2013) -

Battling start-time temperatures in the high 70s with stifling humidity to match, 31-year-old Kenyan Henry Rutto didn't waste any time going by countryman Julius Kosgei when he finally caught up to him just past the race's 11-mile mark, pulling away over the final two miles to win the 13th Rock 'n' Roll Virginia Beach Half Marathon on Sunday morning in 1 hour, 4 minutes and 21 seconds. Kosgei crossed 8 seconds later to take second, while Ernest Kebenei of Norfolk, Virginia finished third in 1:05:19.



The women's race was an entirely Japanese affair up front, as the trio of Noriko Higuchi, Yuko Hakoyama and Chihiro Takato, who have been training in the U.S. throughout the summer, took first, second and third, respectively, in 1:15:28, 1:16:19 and 1:19:03.

Reyes, Bauge Win Oregon Wine Country Half Marathon


WILLAMETTE VALLEY, Ore. (Sept. 1, 2013) -
Sergio Reyes and Zita Bau ge won their debut appearances in the 4th Oregon Wine Country Half Marathon on a picturesque day in the Willamette Valley. The race, presented by Subaru, featured a scenic 13.1-mile race that started at Stoller Family Estate Winery, and finished in downtown Carlton. Produced by Destination Races of Sonoma, the event was the fourth of six in the Wine Country Half Marathon Series.



Reyes (above, photo by Evan Pilidhik), from Palmdale, Calif., won the race with time of 1 hour, 7 minutes, 49 seconds, beating second place finisher Mario Mendoza of Bend, Ore. (1:08:36) and third place finisher
Michael Nicks of Portland, Ore. (1:09:25).



Three Oregonians swept the women's podium. Zita Bauge, a native of Hungary who resides in Oregon, ran 1:20:14, defeating Eva Vail, of Portland (1:20:14) and the winner of the first two Oregon Wine Country Half Marathons, Carrie Heineck (third in 1:03:59).

Disneyland Half Marathon Crowns Grabow, Dinius 2013 Champions


ANAHEIM, Calif. (Sept. 1, 2013) - In the land of sequels, the
Disneyland Half Marathon crowned Jimmy Grabow as its champion for the second straight year on Sunday, September 1, 2013. Grabow, from the aptly named town of Runner Springs, Calif., crossed the finish line in 1 hour, 7 minutes, 41 seconds, slightly off his record-setting pace of 1:05:29 in 2012. Ricardo Ramirez finished second with a time of 1:14:30.



The female champion, Stephanie Dinius (photo courtesy RunDisney), crossed the finish line in record fashion, capturing the women's title with a time of 1:15:47.
Rachel Booth held the previous record, 1:18:01, from the 2011 Disneyland Half Marathon. Last year's winner, Cindy Lynch, finished as runner-up with a time of 1:25:29.


The half-marathon field of 17,500 registered runners passed through Disneyland, Disney California Adventure, Angel Stadium and the streets of Anaheim. Along the route, runners were greeted by cheering fans, Disney characters, music and live entertainment.

2014 Boston Marathon Registration to Begin Monday, Sept. 9


BOSTON -- Registration for the
2014 Boston Marathon will open on Monday, September 9, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. ET. The B.A.A. will use the same process to register qualified runners as it used in the 2012 and 2013 Marathons, allowing the fastest qualifiers to register first.


Registration will be held entirely online at www.baa.org. The qualification window for the 2014 Boston Marathon began last year on September 22, 2012.


In addition, in cooperation with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and the eight cities and towns along the Boston Marathon route, the B.A.A. has set the field size for the 2014 Boston Marathon at 36,000 official entrants. The 118th Boston Marathon will be held on Monday, April 21, 2014 and will mark the 29th consecutive year that the event will have John Hancock Financial Services as its principal sponsor.


Registration will occur on a "rolling admission" schedule, beginning with the fastest qualifiers. On Monday, September 9, eligible runners who have met the qualifying standard for their age and gender by 20 minutes or more may register. On Wednesday, September 11 at 10:00 a.m. ET, if space remains, registration will open for those who have met their qualifying standard by 10 minutes or more. If space remains, registration will open on Friday, September 13 at 10:00 a.m. ET for those who have met their qualifying standard by five minutes or more. Registration will close on Saturday, September 14 at 10:00 p.m. ET.
