Quiet Week in the Division I Regional Rankings

September 23, 2013

NEW ORLEANS – With relatively few teams in action this past weekend ahead of the important meets around the country later this week, very few changes took place in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division I Regional Rankings released Monday.

Division I XC Rankings Central

Last week’s top teams in each of the nine regions on both the men’s and women’s side remained in place for this edition, with only a few significant changes in a small number of regions. However, this week should be considered the calm before the storm as Friday begins the period during which teams can earn head-to-head victories toward potential at-large selections into the NCAA Championships in Terre Haute, Ind., on November 23.

Fields this coming weekend at Minnesota’s Roy Griak Invitational and Oklahoma State’s Cowboy Jamboree will be loaded with ranked teams, resulting in a potentially very different regional rankings landscape next Monday. The USTFCCCA’s Warm-Up Lap will preview the weekend action on Thursday.

The most significant change in the men’s rankings took place in the Great Lakes Region, where top-ranked Wisconsin was the only stationary team in its top five. Indiana and Michigan both moved up one spot to second and fourth, respectively, while displacing Notre Dame and Michigan State to third and fifth, respectively.

Top-five movement was found only in the Midwest Region in the women’s rankings, as Tulsa improved to fourth in a swap with Northwestern to fifth.

Regional Championships will be held Friday, November 15. More details can be found at Regional Championships Central.
