Sign Up For Free Email Updates STANFORD, Calif. – Erik Olson and Jessica Tonn won the individual races and led Stanford to a sweep of the men’s and women’s team titles at the 40th annual Stanford Invitational cross country meet on Saturday at Stanford Golf Course.

The Stanford men extended their team winning streak at the meet to 19 and the women won the 10th consecutive year. It also was the second Stanford sweep in as many meets this season, after capturing the USF Invitational on Aug. 31.

Olson became the first Stanford male, other than two-time champ Chris Derrick, to win since 2006. Olson and Jim Rosa finished virtually tied, in 24:25 over the 8-kilometer course, though Olson was awarded the victory.

In scoring against the other 11 NCAA Division I teams, and not including the 15 non-D-I teams in the race, Stanford scored 25 points to runner-up Loyola Marymount’s 50.

For the women, Tonn and Aisling Cuffe ran side by side to finish 1-2 in 21:00 over the 6-kilometer course. Tonn, a senior, earned her first collegiate invitational victory.

Chris Miltenberg, Stanford’s Franklin P. Johnson Director of Track and Field, used the meet as an evaluation tool. None of his freshmen, men or women, competed in a Stanford uniform, but ran unattached.

Miltenberg will decide whether to bring some onto the squad this season or redshirt them. One freshman who made a strong case was Sean McGorty, who was fifth overall (23:42) and would have been Stanford’s No. 4 runner.

Among the women, former Los Gatos High standout Danielle Katz was the top freshman, finishing 11th (21:47) and would have been Stanford’s No. 4 runner.

For Stanford’s next race, at the Pre-Nationals in Terre Haute, Ind., on Oct. 19, Miltenberg will assemble teams that should more closely resemble the ones the Cardinal will field for the postseason.
