Complete Results Sign Up For Free Email Updates EARLYSVILLE, Va. – Junior Kelsey Santisteban placed fourth individually to lead the California women’s cross country team to a sixth-place finish as a team at the prestigious Panorama Farms/Virginia Invitational Saturday in Earlysville, Va. The Golden Bear men placed ninth overall as a team in the competitive field that included several ranked squads.
Santisteban, who won the season-opening USF Invitational individual crown, ran the 5,000-meter course in 16:51.8 to place fourth overall and guide the Bears in Virginia. Fellow junior Heather Cerney finished the course in 17:39.0 to place 21st overall. Sophomores Mariel Mendoza (18:09.7) and Xochitl Navarrete (18:22.0) placed 36th and 47th, respectively. Junior Sydney Gray (18:24.2) finished 50th, sophomore Julia Lipson (18:27.5) placed 54th, and junior Laura O’Neill (18:58.6) was 77th to round out the Golden Bears in the race.
Virginia captured the women’s team title, while William & Mary’s Elaina Balouris (16:31.8) was the individual champion in the women’s event.
Senior J.P. Slater paced the Cal men with a time of 24:24.3 in the 8,000-meter race to place 39th overall in the event and guided the Bears to a ninth-place finish as a team. Junior Jordan Locklear placed 38th overall with a time of 24:37.8. Sophomores Leland Later (24:50.6) and Thomas Joyce (24:55.6) finished 46th and 51st, respectively. Freshman Seamus Land (25:23.4) was 66th, and sophomore Ned Trim (25:35.4) placed 76th to round out the Bears in the event.
North Carolina won the men’s event, while Eastern Kentucky’s Soufiane Bouchikhi (23:22.4) took home the men’s individual crown.
Cal returns to action next Friday, Oct. 4, at 9:30 a.m. as the Bears compete in the Sacramento Jamboree, hosted by Sacramento State.
