Courtesy: - Related Links TUCSON – The University of Arizona Wildcat Director of Men’s and Women’s Cross Country and Track and Field Fred Harvey and his coaching staff have announced the signing class for the 2013-14 season.

Freshman Miles Parish, a graduate of Etiwanda High School in Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., won the California State Championship in the 400-meter run with a time of 46.53, his personal best for the event was the No. 7 time in the country. He earned all-conference honors in 2011, 2012 and 2013 as well all-city and all-district accolades in those three years. He holds school records in the 200 meters (21.60), 400 meters (46.53) and the 4x400-meter relay (3:18).

The men’s program also added freshman Gerhard De Beer of Pretoria, South Africa. De Beer graduated from Afrikaanse Hoër Seunskool and he was a member of the rugby team as well as the track and field team. At the school, he holds the U16 and U19 record for the discus. He was the World Youth Games and World Junior Championships bronze medalist in the discus. De Beer was the Commonwealth Youth Champion in the event as well.

Freshman Bryce Houston is another addition to the sprints group. He runs the 400 meters and his personal-best time of 47.37 is a school record at Rodriguez High School in Fairfield, Calif. He earned first-team all-conference, all-city, all-district, all-region and all-state accolades as a senior. At the CIF State Championships, he took seventh place in the 400-meter run. He was voted the 2013 Daily Republic Prep Athlete of the Year.

The Wildcats added another Kibet to the program, senior Elvin Kibet’s brother, Collins Kibet, is a member of the men’s cross country and track and field team. He is from Eldoret, Kenya and had no competitive running experience prior to college. In his first race as a collegiate, he took fourth place at the George Kyte Classic for the cross country team.

Junior Pau Tonnesen is a junior college transfer from Mesa Community College. He graduated from Tempe Preparatory Academy prior to attending Mesa Community College. At the 2013 NJCAA Outdoor Championships, Tonnesen earned a first-place finish in the decathlon with 7,102 points. His personal-best mark in the decathlon came at NJCAA Regional Track and Field Championships where he scored 7,303 points and took first place. At the 2013 NJCAA Indoor Championships, Tonnesen also won in the heptathlon and scored 5,331 points. Tonnesen won the 2012 NJCAA Outdoor Championship as well.

The men’s team also added Matthew Beer (cross country/distance), James .erkley (sprints), Andrew Berman II (sprints), Clay Cashman (throws), Michael Cox (cross country/distance), Malik Fain (jumps), Jeff Gautreau (cross country/distance), Jonathan Hart (throws), John Kane (sprints), Avery Mickens (jumps), Travis Thorne (cross country/distance), Brendan Tinoco (cross country/distance) and Sam Willis (cross country/distance).

On the women’s side, sophomore Kayla Beattie transferred from Iowa where she earned all-region honors in 2012 for her work on the cross country team. A graduate of Woodstock High School in Woodstock, Ill., she earned All-State honors in cross country her freshman year, junior year and senior year, where she was also the state champion her final two seasons. On the track, she claimed All-State honors as a sophomore, junior and senior in both the mile and two-mile race. She was a three-time state champion, winning the two-mile race her junior and senior year as well as the mile in her senior year. Beattie earned All-America accolades at the Nike Cross Country Nationals and the Footlocker Invitational. On the track, she earned All-America honors at the New Balance Invitational and the USATF Championships. She holds school records in the 800 meters, mile and two-mile race.

Freshman Jasper Gray is a graduate of Advanced Technologies Academy (ATECH) but ran for Cheyenne High School in Las Vegas, Nev. Gray earned Nevada Interscholastic Athletics Association (NIAA) DIA all-region honors her senior year as well as all-state accolades. She won the Nevada State Championship in the 400 meters with a time of 56.93. Her personal-best time is 56.63. She ran in the AAU Junior Olympics in 2012 and 2013 as a member of a 4x400-meter relay team. That quartet placed seventh in 2012 and fifth in 2013.

Freshman Lisanne Hagens graduated from Alfrink College in the Netherlands. They do not have school athletics so she competed on a club team. She was the Dutch National Junior Champion in the high jump for indoor and outdoor in 2012. She also won the Dutch National Junior Championship in the long jump for 2012 indoor and outdoor season. She earned a silver medal at Dutch National Championships in high jump in 2013 and she competed at the 2012 World Junior Championships in Barcelona. She has a personal-best jump of 5-10.75 (1.80m).

Sophomore Nnenya Hailey transferred to Arizona from Clemson University. Hailey attended Clemson University for a year She was a member of the women’s team that claimed the 2013 ACC Championship for indoors and outdoors. Indoors, she clocked a time of 54.58 in the 400 meters and 8.48 in the 60-meter hurdles. Outdoors, she ran 14.09 in the 100-meter hurdles and 59.80 in the 400-meter hurdles. She is a graduate of Mt. Vernon Presidential School in Atlanta, Ga. … She all-region and all-state honors her sophomore and senior year. She holds school records in the 100-meter hurdles, 300-meter hurdles and 200-meter dash. She was a member of the 4x100-meter relay team that won the Georgia State Championship. In 2011, Hailey won the 400-meter hurdles at the World Youth Championship in France.

Freshman Aleah Hurst was the Texas Relays champion in the long jump. She was also the district, area and regional champion in the event. She earned a fourth-place finish at the 2013 Texas State Championships. Her personal-best jump of 19-10.75 is a school record. Her first time competing as a track and field athlete was in ninth grade.

Freshman Maria Larsson is a talented addition to the women’s cross country and track and field team. In Sweden, high school athletics are not offered, however, she did still compete for a club team and was incredibly successful. She was the Swedish Junior Champion in 2012 for the steeplechase and the 1,500-meter race (indoors). She holds the Swedish junior record for the steeplechase with a time of 9:56.50. Entering Arizona, that time is better than the UA record. Larsson took fourth place at the 2013 European Junior Championships in the steeplechase. She was fifth in the world on the IAAF Junior 2013 descending order list in the steeplechase.

The women’s squad also added Meg Bellino (cross country/middle distance), Kayla Ferron (cross country/distance), McKenna Gaffney (cross country/distance), Alex Gilbert (sprints), Rachel Johns (hurdles), Audrey Muir (jumps), Morgan Struble (hurdles), Gia Trevisan (sprints), Katelin Warren (sprints) and Savannah Whitehead (pole vault).
