The Cardinal track and field teams get the indoor season in full swing in Seattle at the UW Indoor Preview.

SEATTLE - The Cardinal track teams were back in action on Saturday with a large contingent of athletes competing in the UW Indoor Preview at Dempsey Indoor Stadium on the campus of the University of Washington.
The Stanford women showed off its depth in the sprints, particularly in the 400 meters. The Cardinal finished 1-2-3 as Shataya Hendricks took the meet title with a personal best time of 56.06. Right behind Hendricks were Angela Gradiska (56.33) and Carissa Levingston (56.93) who both ran outstanding early season times, especially for short sprinters.
The Cardinal women also dominated the 60 meters as five women qualified for the final. Hendricks led Stanford in the prelims, running 7.62 to finish as the second seed. Levingston (7.72), Kori Carter (7.76), Gradiska (7.78) and Katie Nelms (7.79) also qualified for the final.
In the final, Hendricks led Stanford, finishing fourth with a time of 7.66, but nobody improved their time from the prelims.
The Cardinal hurdling duo of Carter and Nelms both reached the final of the 60-meter hurdles as well. Carter was just off her personal best, running 8.35 to finish second, while Nelms was third in a personal best of 8.38.
The Cardinal sprinters also went 1-2 in the 4x400-meter relay with the team of Kellie Schueler, Levingston, Hendricks and Carter taking the meet title in 3:49.37, while the `B' team was six seconds back in second place.
In the distances, Mary Kate Anselimi and Emilie Amaro led Stanford placing sixth and seventh in the 3,000 meters. Anselimi led Stanford with a time of 9:50.98, while Amaro was not far behind in 9:52.45.
The Cardinal also received top-ten finishes in the mile from Sophia Ginez (5:06.42) and freshman Julia Foster (5:07.15).
The Cardinal men were led by the field event athletes as Darian Brooks won the triple jump with a mark of 48-1 ¼ (14.66m). In addition, Dartis Willis II placed second in the high jump with a mark of 6-11 ½ (2.12m).
In the pole vault, Corey Dysick placed fourth with a mark of 16-5 ¼ (5.01), while freshman Dalton Duvio was tied for sixth, clearing 15-11 ¼ (4.86m).
Finally in the field, Stanford got a fourth-place finish from Kevin Cardey in the long jump with a mark of 22-7 ¾ (6.90m), while Patton Jones leaped 22-2 ¼ (6.76m) and finished sixth.
The sprinters on the men's side also fared well with Darian Brooks (6.99) and Colin Hepburn (7.08) both reaching the final. Brooks then repeated the same time in the final to finish fifth, while Hepburn improved to 7.01 to finish seventh.
Heburn then doubled back to take fifth in the 200 meters with a time of 22.26. However, he was bettered by Spencer Chase who was fourth in 22.08.
In the distances, Kevin Havel ran well in the 3,000 meters, placing fourth with a time of 8:17.62.
In the mile, Marco Bertolotti led a group of Stanford runners by finishing fifth with a time of 4:07.25. Kenny Krotzer (4:09.10), Jim Rosa (4:09.29) and Joe Rosa (4:09.84) each also placed in the top 10.
The Cardinal will be back in action next weekend when it travels to Boise, Idaho, to compete in the Bronco Invitational on January 21.
