WASHINGTON - The Georgetown indoor track & field season is in full swing and the women are continuing the success they enjoyed during the fall cross country season. The women's distance medley relay foursome set a new school record in the 4,000-meter event, knocking nearly five seconds off the record set during the 2011 indoor season. Both the men's and women's teams traveled to University Park, Pa., for the Penn State National meet - a two-day affair at the Horace Ashenfelter III Indoor Track.

"It was a great effort and they did it leading from the gun and carrying the workloads themselves," Associate Head Track & Field Coach Chris Miltenberg said. "This is an event we have such a rich tradition in so to knock nearly five seconds off the school record in one shot is a huge accomplishment and a great sign of where we are right now."

The foursome won the women's distance medley relay with a time of 10:55.95, besting the record set during the 2011 indoor season (11:00.67).

All-American Rachel Schneider (Dover, N.H./St. Thomas Aquinas) led off the 1,200-meter leg for the Hoyas. London Finley (Los Angeles, Calif./St. Mary's Academy), a BIG EAST individual champion, completed the 400-meter stanza with a handoff to All-American Chelsea Cox (Manahawkin, N.J./Southern Regional).

A handoff from Cox to eight-time All-American Emily Infeld (University Heights, Ohio/Beaumont) was an all-too-familiar scene as the duo ran the final two legs when the Hoyas won the 2011 Penn Relays Distance Medley Relay Championship of America nine months ago.

The time is an automatic qualifier for the 2012 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships held at the Jacksons Indoor Track at the Idaho Center in Nampa, Idaho.
Continuing the Hoyas' winning ways was Brian King (Sonoma, Calif./Cardinal Newman) who took first place in the men's 5,000-meter invitational. His time of 14:40.19 qualified the sophomore for the BIG EAST Championships.

Although they fell shy of qualifying for the semifinals, three members of the Blue & Gray were able to put up BIG EAST qualifying times in the six-heat preliminary round of the men's 60-meter hurdles. Justin Crawford (Gastonia, N.C./Ashbrook) finished 18th overall with a time of 8.14 while Biyerem Okengwu (Piscataway, N.J./Piscataway Township) finished 20th overall (8.17) followed by Kamryn Austin (Ewing, N.J./Ewing) in 27th place (8.23).

The Hoyas continue at the Horace Ashenfelter III Indoor Track tomorrow for the conclusion of the Penn State National meet. The first event goes off at 10 a.m., with the final event slated for 5:55 p.m., with live results available here.
