PHILADELPHIA -- The USA vs. The World races put on a show on a sunny Saturday at Franklin Field, with the Americans sweeping the three men's races and a win for the Americans at the wire in the 4x200 by two thousandths of a second in front of 49,103 fans at Franklin Field.
Once again, Villanova performed in front of the hometown fans, winning the men's 4xMile Relay and the women's 4x800 Relays. Jordan Williamsz chased down Oregon's Edward Cheserek in 4xMile filled with strategy, besting Cheserek by 0.9 seconds -- just abouty even with the final winning margin. For the women, Angel Piccirillo broke away from the pack in the final leg, and her anchor leg was enough to stave off Clemson's late charge from Natoya Goule.
UTech swept the men's sprints on Saturday, winning the 4x100 and 4x200. The 4x100 was a close one, UTech edging Texas A&M by 0.19 seconds.
The Franklin Field crowd focused its attention on the south straightaway for the Masters Men's 75+ race which was won by Alby Williams (75 years old) in 14.15. Other highlights of the race were the finishes by 94-year old George Scott and 98-year old Champ Goldy. Elizabeth Leander, an 85-year old woman, made Relays history by being the first woman to compete in the race.
We will see you again April 28-30, 2016!
