Marilyn Amsden Nov. 20, 1944 - Aug. 17, 2014 Marilyn Amsden passed away on Sunday, August 17, 2014 in Novato, California after a seven year journey with pancreatic cancer. Her husband and sister were at her side during her last moments of life. She was born on November 20, 1944 at the Naval Hospital in San Diego and grew up in San Francisco, graduating from Lincoln High School in 1962, the University of California in 1966 with a BA degree in Design, and obtained both an elementary teaching credential and a Masters Degree in Education from San Francisco State College. She was a member for over 50 years of Alpha Xi Delta sorority. Her teaching career included Pacifica, the Dixie School District in Marin County, and a ten year period at Pleasant Valley Elementary School in Novato. As a child she developed a love of the water and enjoyed synchronized swimming. As an adult she wore many hats: wife, mother, grandmother, sister, teacher, PTA president, bowler, skier, swimmer, camper, RVer, hiker, traveler, avid reader, and sewing and crafts master. For over 30 years Marilyn was a Bible Study Fellowship participant and discussion leader. She considered herself first and foremost a devout Christian. Marilyn married Barry Amsden on December 19, 1970 in San Francisco and moved to San Anselmo and then Novato where she has resided for 42 years. She is survived by her husband of almost 44 years Barry of Novato, her daughter Heidi and Eli Hefner of Green Valley and grandchildren Jayson, Nathan, Emily and Paige, son Jeff and Paula Amsden of Colorado Springs, Colorado and granddaughters Malia and Ava, and son Dan and Hellen Amsden of Sacramento and granddaughter Hannah. She is also survived by her sister Joan Blanchard of Novato, brother-in-law Ron Amsden of Medford, Oregon and aunt and uncle Howard and Lorraine McKinley of San Rafael as well as numerous cousins and other relatives. A memorial service in her honor will be held on Saturday, August 30 at 11:00 AM at the Presbyterian Church of Novato, 710 Wilson Avenue in Novato, to be followed by a luncheon on the patio at the church. Burial will be private under the direction of Keaton's Redwood Chapel, 1801 Novato Blvd. Donations in Marilyn's honor can be made to the Presbyterian Church of Novato Deacon's Fund.

Keith Conning: I graduated from Lincoln High School in January, 1959.  I was on the track and cross country team with Barry Amsden.  I attended the University of California from 1961-1964.
