SAN FRANCISCO – The Pac-12 Conference announced on Monday that California junior Thomas Joyce was named the men’s Track Athlete of the Week. Joyce won the Don Bowden Mile on Saturday at the Brutus Hamilton Challenge in Berkeley. The Moraga, California, native defeated the indoor national champion in the mile, UTEP’s Anthony Rotich, as Joyce set a new PR and moved into fourth on Cal’s All-Time Performers List with his time of 3:58.69. He moved past Bowden himself by one hundredth of a second. Joyce’s win helped lead the Bears to another scoring meet victory, as Cal defeated Kansas State, UTEP and Utah State.
The Golden Bears will be back in action next week, competing at the Payton Jordan Invite on Saturday, May 1 at Stanford.
