Bob (Coach) McGuire, Sr., Celebration of Life

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                            Bob (Coach) McGuire, Sr., May 9, 1927 - March 24, 2015, Pleasant Hill, CA.

Raised; Twain Harte and Sonora. Served in US Navy. Graduate of UOP (1949). 62 year career teaching secondary school and college (coaching 42 years). Married 60 years to Lorlei Newberry McGuire (passing 7-04-07). Survivors: son Robert and daughters Susan, Carol, Patricia, Kelle and KC, 9 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, 3 sisters-in-law, numerous nieces and nephews, and his loyal pets.Honor Bob by joining us at the old PHHS track/Pleasant Oaks Park, Pleasant Hill 4-19-15 (Sunday) at 1pm.

We walked one lap around the track.

Willie White - head track and cross country coach at Berkeley HS 1966-1984, and assistant track coach Cal State Hayward.  1976 State HS Meet 100 yard champion for Jefferson, Los Angeles.  Ranked #4 in the World 100 meters by Track and Field News in 1967.  Placed sixth in the 1960 U.S. Olympic Trials 100 meters at Stanford.

Thomas A. "Tom" Torlakson (born July 19, 1949) is an American politician from California. In 2010, he was elected to the position of California State Superintendent of Public Instruction, the highest education post in California. He is a member of the Democratic Party.
He previously served his three terms in the California State Assembly, representing the 11th district, which consists of northern portions of Contra Costa County. He also served two terms in the California State Senate, representing the 7th district, which consists of most of Contra Costa County.
Born in San Francisco, Superintendent Torlakson served as a fireman in the United States Merchant Marine, earning the Vietnam Service Medal. He earned a B.A. in History, a Life Secondary Teaching Credential, and an M.A. in Education from the University of California, Berkeley.  Cross country and track coach at Antioch High School.

 Ed Miller, a member of the Cal Athletic Hall of Fame who won the 1976 NCAA decathlon title as a student. Throughout his storied career, Miller has earned a national and international reputation for his success on the field. He is considered one of the premier multi-event coaches in the world and has served USA Track & Field on four international trips, including the 2003 IAAF World Championships in Paris as an assistant coach.

Dr. Marcel Hetu (CS Hayward) Dr. Marcel A. Hetu has lived in California most of his life and is a product of the California public education system where he graduated from Hillsdale High School in San Mateo. He completed an Associate Arts degree at the College of San Mateo, and then went to the University of Arizona on a track scholarship. His interest in sports allowed him to compete in cross country and track and field throughout his college years. He won the California Community College State Mile Championship and set the U.S. National Record for the 2-man ten mile record with his former high school teammate.

Catherine ("Cathy") Ann Sulinski (born April 3, 1958 in San Francisco, California) is a retired female javelin thrower from the United States. She competed for her native country at the 1984 Summer Olympics, finishing in tenth place (58.38 metres) in the final.  National javelin champion
