SRA donates $10,000 to Boston victims.

The Sacramento Running Association, organizer of the California International Marathon, has donated $10,000 to the victims of the Boston Marathon bombings, SRA Executive Director Ellen Moore announced Wednesday.

Moore said the money will be sent directly to The One Fund Boston, set up to assist those affected by the tragedy.

"The Sacramento Running Association, on behalf of the entire running community in Sacramento, is honored to contribute to The One Fund Boston," Moore said. "We are committed to helping those affected by this tragic event.

"The tragedy in Boston reminded us all just how strong, motivated and committed the national running community is. This single act of violence will not deter the spirit that lives in every runner, here in Sacramento, in Boston and within the United States."

With a fast, slightly downhill course, the CIM has long served as a favorite race for runners to earn a Boston Marathon qualifying time. Each year, approximately 1,600 runners in the CIM obtain a Boston qualifier.

Daniel Tapia, the 2012 CIM champion and a member of the SRA's Elite Team, finished ninth overall and was the second American finisher in the 2013 Boston Marathon with a 2-hour, 14-minute and 30-second effort. The SRA's Elite Team recorded the fastest team finish time at this year's Boston Marathon.

Michelle La Sala, Director of Race Operations for SRA, and Kevin Pool, the SRA's Director of Technical Operations, were among the many Sacramento-area runners who ran in the Boston Marathon this year.

"Having run the the Boston Marathon and experienced the tragedy, we are encouraged that the Sacramento Running Association, on behalf of the California International Marathon, is able to lend our support to the Boston Marathon and all of its victims through The One Fund," La Sala and Pool said in a joint statement.

The Sacramento Running Association is a non-profit organization dedicated to finding ways to encourage people of all ages and abilities to run. The SRA is committed to developing new, quality running events that appeal to a broad variety of runners.

SRA events include the recently concluded Credit Union SACTOWN Ten-Mile Run, the Gold Rush 100k on May 11, the Freedom Mile on June 15, the Folsom Blues Breakout Half Marathon on Oct. 19, the California International Marathon on Dec. 8, and the Super Sunday Run 10K Run on Feb. 2.

SRA beneficiaries include the American River Parkway, youth fitness programs, local running venues and aspiring young runners.
