Blackley, Miles & Williams Named to Division II Athlete Hall of Fame

NEW ORLEANS – The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced on Friday that it will induct four new members to its Division II Track & Field Athlete Hall of Fame. Kirby Blackley of Findlay, Derek Miles of South Dakota and Randolph Williams of Kentucky State are set to be honored during an induction ceremony held Wednesday, May 22, in Pueblo, Colo., held prior to the NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships.

Kirby Blackley
University of Findlay
Blackley, a Cincinnati, Ohio, native, claimed outdoor NCAA Division II individual titles in both the 100 hurdles and the long jump in 2008 en route to USTFCCCA Division II Athlete of the Year honors. During her time at Findlay she earned 10 USTFCCCA All-America honors in the hurdles, the long jump and the 4×400 to go along with 14 GLIAC titles. A three-time Findlay Female Athlete of the Year honoree, she still holds both the indoor and outdoor long jump school record, in addition to the 55 hurdles and 4×100 relay records.

Following her collegiate career she went on to qualify for the USA Indoor Championships in the 60 hurdles in 2008, 2009 and 2010, and in the pentathlon in 2009 and 2010. She is now the associate head women’s coach at Wayne State University in Michigan.

Derek Miles
University of South Dakota
Originally from Fair Oaks, Calif., Miles was a five-time All-American in the pole vault during his time at South Dakota, having also qualified for the NCAA Division II Championships in long jump, triple jump and decathlon throughout his career. He was named to the University of South Dakota Athletics Hall of Fame in 2006.

His career took off as a professional, as he finished seventh in the pole vault at the 2004 Athens Olympics and just shy of an Olympic medal in fourth at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. He also qualified for the pole vault at the 2012 London Olympics. He is a three-time USA National Champion and a six-time world team member with a personal-best of 19-2½ set in 2008. He now coaches at his alma mater.

Randolph Williams
Kentucky State University
During his time at Kentucky State Williams developed into not just one of Division II’s best 400/440yd hurdler, but one of the best in the country regardless of division. He claimed two NCAA Division II individual titles in the 400/440yd hurdles and earned nine All-America honors between the hurdles and the 4×100 and 4×400 relays. He was elected to the Kentucky State University Athletics Hall of Fame in 2005.

As a hurdler he was ranked within the top ten of the 400 hurdles list published by Track & Field News. Following his track career he coached and served as Director for AAU and Masters Championships. He is a police officer in Detroit and a war veteran.
