Teenage Phenom Alana Hadley Eager to Challenge Rite Aid Cleveland Marathon Elite Field

CLEVELAND
- Known for its fast, flat conditions that at one time spawned the world record in the 10K, the 2013 Rite Aid Cleveland Marathon and 10K fields include
a strong contingent of elite runners from across the country and around the world.

As a whole, the group has already won close 20 road races so far in 2013. In addition to eight elites from the United States, the runners also call Ethiopia, Great Britain, Kenya, Morocco, Russia and Turkey home.

A rising star in the group, Alana Hadley also happens to be the youngest. At just 16 years old, the Charlotte, N.C. 10th grader is a member of the 2016 U.S. Marathon Trials Project and will be making her much-anticipated marathon debut in Cleveland.

Also included are 2012 Rite Aid Cleveland Marathon men's winner Abraham Kogo and runner-up Peter Kembol, as well as the women's champion, Mary Akor. Akor is having perhaps the best year of anyone in the field, having already claimed first place this year at the Pittsburgh, Woodlands and Trinidad & Tobago Marathons. Meanwhile, on the men's side, Mario Macias heads to Cleveland on the heels of winning the Carlsbad and Mercedes Marathons.
Everlyne Lagat, the two-time defending champion in the Rite Aid Cleveland 10K, will also be back to defend her title.

Ryan Hall to Race 102nd Bay to Breakers 12K

SAN FRANCISCO - The
102nd Bay to Breakers presented by craigslist will take place on Sunday, May 19, with an elite field heavy on U.S. road racing talent. One of them could become the first U.S. Bay to Breakers 12K winner in 20 years.

Ryan Hall, a two-time Olympic marathoner, will compete in this legendary race for the first time. Hall holds the U.S. half-marathon record of 59 minutes, 43 seconds, and the American 20K record of 57:54. This will be Hall's first race since the 2012 Olympic Marathon in London, when he struggled with injuries.

Hall is joined in the field by an an impressive collection of top elite males including Tesfaye Alemayehu, Tolossa Gedefa Fufi, Olympian Bolota Asmerom, Giliat Ghebray and Edward Mbuni.

An impressive female elite field is also set to create excitement at the finish, with 2012 Bay to Breakers runner-up
Diane Nukuri-Johnson aiming to improve to the top spot on the podium. She was second at the NYC Half Marathon and eighth in the Boston Marathon, both personal bests. Challenging Nukuri-Johnson for the 2013 title is the top American from 2012, Michelle Frey. Frey was the fourth overall finisher in 2012 after shaving two minutes off her 2011 time.

Despite Frey and Nukuri-Johnson's return, this year's race might belong to local talent Chelsea Reilly. A former Cal Berkeley Golden Bear, Reilly has won two U.S. national titles within the past year. She will be competing in Bay to Breakers for the first time.

Komon Wins Second UAE Healthy Kidney 10K Title
NEW YORK CITY (May 11, 2013) -
Cloudy skies and rain showers just before the start could not deter the 5,851 runners who finished the ninth-annual UAE Healthy Kidney 10K on Saturday, May 11 in Central Park.
From the moment the starting horn sounded, Kenya's Leonard Patrick

Komon made it clear that he was the man to beat. The 2011 Healthy Kidney 10K winner and course-record holder sprinted to the front of the pack and blazed through the first mile in 4:18; he followed that with another 4:18 for the second mile.

Through the hilly middle miles, Komon fought to keep ahead of record pace. He ran 4:33 for the third mile, and his five-kilometer split of 13:40 put him well in position to break his own Central Park record.

As Komon chased the record and the $30,000 Zayed Bonus that would

accompany it, he built an ever-increasing lead over Moses Kipsiro of Uganda. Several seconds back of Kipsiro, a pack of three men-Kenyans
Edwin Soi and Stephen Sambu, along with Abera Kuma of Ethiopia-battled for third place.

Over the second half of the race, the fast early pace and the course's rolling hills took their toll on Komon, and but he never relented, leading from gun to tape to win in a time of 27:58. Although he missed the course-record bonus, he did win $25,000 for first place, the largest winner's purse for any non-marathon race in the United States.
