Tinsley, the 2012 Olympic silver medalist, recorded a season’s best mark crossing the finish line in 48.43 seconds. Tinsley edged out Olympic bronze medalist Javier Culson of Puerto Rico by a tenth of a second.

“I was just trying to stay relaxed and not tighten up after the last hurdle,” Tinsley said. “I knew that Javier [Culson] was in front of me and I wanted to catch him, but I knew I had to stay relaxed if I was going to do it.”

Tinsley posted his season’s best time despite light rain. His mark is the world’s third fastest in the 400m hurdles this year.

“It felt really good to win at the adidas Grand Prix, it really meant a lot to me to win at that meet,” Tinsley said. “Javier [Culson] and Johnny [Dutch] are doing really well this year, so to win this meet lets me know that my training is going really well.”

NCAA I PRELIMINARY ROUNDS -- NO WINNERS, JUST COMPETITION
Two giant meets with no champions crowned still saw a raft of good marks as the cream of the NCAA I crop gathered in Austin and Greensboro to fight for berths at the national championship meet in Eugene.

Among the top efforts were a 9.99 by Ole Miss Olympian Isiah Young in the heats of the East 100m and a U.S.-leading 81.90m/268-8 from Olympic Trials champ Sam Humphreys of Texas A&M in the West javelin.

TCU's Charles Silmon, the 2010 World Junior 100m silver medalist, swept the dashes in the West at 10.03m/20.23, and Elijah Greer clocked 1:46.20 for Oregon in the 800m.

Reigning World Junior champ Ashley Spencer of Illinois rolled to her second fastest time ever with a 50.88 in the 400m, while Stanford's Kori Carter (54.50) and Arizona Olympian Georganne Moline (54.59) waged another speedy battle in the 400m hurdles.

2012 Olympian and reigning NCAA indoor and outdoor champion Tia Brooks of Oklahoma scared the collegiate record in the women's shot put with her 18.96m/62-2.5 throw in the sixth round.

NCAA II CROWNS GO TO ST. AUGUSTINE'S, ACADEMY OF ART
St. Augustine's won its 11th NCAA II outdoor men's championship on the strength of a relay sweep, while Academy of Art captured the school's first women's national crown on the shoulders of hurdler/jumper Vashti Thomas.

Jermaine Jones won the 200m and anchored the Falcons to a sizzling 38.91 in the 4x100m, the first time a Division II school has dipped under 39 seconds.

Thomas zipped to a 12.70 to win the 100m hurdles and soared 6.47m/21-2.75 for long jump gold. For good measure she added a silver in the 200m at 22.75, and a bronze in the triple jump (12.89m/42-3.5)

LA CROSSE, WARTBURG TOPS IN NCAA DIVISION III
Long jumper Isaac Vazquez led the Wisconsin-La Crosse men to their 12th NCAA Division III national championship with his 7.74m/25-4.75 win, and Wartburg won a closely-contested women's team title with 46 points.

Wisconsin-Oshkosh had a triple-gold performance from Christy Cazzola, who took the 800m (2:05.93), 1500m (4:17.22) and 5000m (16:31.17) on the final day of the meet, but the Titans fell three points short of the championship.

Tim Van Liew of Rutgers-Camden shattered his personal record and the national meet record in the javelin with a massive 75.55m/247-10 toss on his second attempt.

INDIANA TECH SWEEPS NAIA TITLES
A nail-biting men's finish and a dominant women's performance gave Indiana Tech a sweep of the NAIA team titles, the school's first-ever national championships. The Warriors won only one men's event -- the 4x100m -- but a runner-up finish in the 4x400m to close the meet gave them a four-point edge over Oklahoma Baptist.

Adella King took the sprint double and ran on the winning 4x100m to help lead her squad to a winning margin of more than 30 points over OBU.

FELIX FLIES THROUGH STREETS OF MANCHESTER
It's a rarely-run distance, but Allyson Felix mastered the 150 meters at the Manchester Street Games in England, clocking the third-fastest time ever with her 16.36. Dawn Harper-Nelson was the other U.S. winner, taking the 100m hurdles in 12.94.

PERSONAL RECORD FOR NIXON IN GÖTZIS DEC
Former Arkansas star and American Junior record-holder Gunnar Nixon had a lifetime best 8,136 to take over the U.S. lead and finish third in the HypoMeeting decathlon at Götzis, Austria.
