Mission San Jose High has dropped its football program, Athletic Director Tom Thomsen confirmed Wednesday.
"It was a lack of interest with our student body. We had 12 kids signed up. We've had no coach apply for the position since our previous coach resigned," he said. "Mostly concerned about numbers. It's a safety issue as well."

Keith Conning: Mission San Jose is located in Fremont, California, which is just northeast of San Jose and Silicon Valley.  Many Indian and Chinese families have moved here to work in the computer industry.  The ethnic makeup of the area has changed in recent years.

Demographics[edit]

As of the 2012-2013 school year, 85% of the students were Asian American (primarily Indian and Chinese), 10% were European American, and 5% were other races.[23]

In the 1970's and 1980's they were noted for their distance runners.  Coach Jack Marden, who won the Bay-To-Breakers in 1961, built a very strong cross country program which included his two sons Jay and Jack Jr..  Jay won the Footlocker National Championship in 1980.
