UCLA Travels to NCAA West Prelims

LOS ANGELES – The UCLA track & field team will send 37 athletes plus two 4x100m relay teams to compete in the NCAA West Prelims, hosted by the University of Kansas at Rock Chalk Park. The event will begin on Thursday, May 26 and conclude on Saturday, May 28.
Action begins Thursday and Friday at 10 a.m. PT with the field events. Saturday field events will start at 1 p.m. PT. Running events start at 2:30 p.m. PT Thursday, 3 p.m. PT on Friday and 4 p.m. PT Saturday.
The Bruins had 45 marks that rank among the top 48 in their respective event that earned berths into the NCAA West Preliminary Round. The best 24 relay times also advanced to the NCAA prelims. The 25 men’s entries are the seventh most in the country.
Athletes with the top 12 times/marks and the best 12 relay teams at both the East and West prelims will qualify for the NCAA Championships.
UCLA enters the meet with seven marks ranked in the top 12 and 14 marks in the top 15 in the region in their respective events.
The men’s shot put paces the Bruins with senior Nicholas Scarvelis, sophomore Braheme Days, and freshman Dotun Ogundeji all ranked in the top 15 as Scarvelis and Days enter with the top two throws in the event. Scarvelis also ranks seventh in the discus.
Also residing in the top 12 for the Bruins are Kylie Price in the long jump with the second best mark in the region, Nick Hartle with the fourth best time in the 800m, Torie Owers with the fourth best throw in the women’s shot put and the UCLA women’s 4x100m relay with the sixth fastest time.
