WILLIAMS RECEIVES PAC-12 HONOR

Decathlete named Men’s Track Athlete of the Week

STANFORD, Calif. –
Stanford freshman Harrison Williams was named Pac-12 Men's Track Athlete of the Week for his performance at the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays last week.

Williams, making his collegiate outdoor track debut, came within 74 points of matching the school’s oldest and most legendary track and field record – that of Bob Mathias in his gold-medal winning effort (7,592 points according to revised scoring tables) at the 1952 Helsinki Olympic Games.

Williams scored a Stanford freshman record 7,518 points, the No. 3 score in school history, to finish second overall and first among collegians. Among those he beat were three heptathlon competitors from the recent NCAA indoor championships, including two top-10 finishers.

Williams, the defending U.S. junior champ, moved to No. 7 on the all-time U.S. junior list and registered the top collegiate decathlon score in the nation and No. 3 score in the world this year.
