Ducks Win Five Events at Trojan Invitational
The women’s 4x100 relay of Marybeth Sant, Ariana Washington, Jenna Prandini and Jasmine Todd started the day with fireworks, winning with a time of 43.31, beating out last year's Pac-12 champion USC. Their time ties the second fastest in school history.
The Crouser name was well represented on the day as the brother-sister combination of Sam and Haley swept the men’s and women’s javelin. Haley’s mark of 158-10 (48.41m) won the women’s event by eight feet. Teammate Annie Whitfield placed fourth with a throw of 140-7 (42.85m).
Sam, the defending National Champion in the event, won the men's competition, throwing 259-0 (78.94m). Freshman Jhet Janis made his Oregon debut, throwing 214-3 (65.30m), for fifth overall.
Annie Leblanc won the women’s 1,500 with a time of 4:20.94, finishing with a six-second gap between herself and the field.
Coming off a strong performance at the NCAA Indoor Championships where she finished tied for fifth, Lauren Crockett won the women’s high jump, clearing 5-10.
Ryan Hunter-Simms set a personal best in the shot put after finishing third in the discus on Friday. Hunter-Simms threw 59-9.75 (18.23m) on Saturday to take second.
Raevyn Rogers led a group of Ducks in the women’s 400. Rogers took second in 54.02 followed by Christian Brennan, (third – 54.61) and Ashante Horsley (54.65).
Tony James continues his progression on the track and opened the season with a second-place finish in the 100 with a time of 10.59. James ran two 100-meter stretches on the day, as he also anchored the 4x100 meter relay which finished second in 40.30, with Marcus Chambers, Nate Moore and Arthur Delaney.
Chambers was also in action for the 200, taking third while setting a big personal record of 20.96 and moving up to 10th on the Oregon all-time list in the event.
Freshman Nate Moore picked up third-place finishes in both the long jump (23-10.75/7.28m) and triple jump (51-00/15.54m). Teammate Josh Melu finished fourth in the triple jump with a wind-legal personal best of 49-7.75 (15.13m).
Marybeth Sant was the top Oregon finisher in the women’s 100 with a third-place finish in 11.91.
The Ducks will host their first-ever Track and Field Fan Fest at Hayward Field on Saturday, March 28th. Admission is free and more information can be found at www.goducks.com/TFFanFest.
