Duvio, the last of 10 Stanford athletes to compete in Austin, reached 17-0 3/4 in the pole vault to finish third in Section A on Saturday. Also, Valarie Allman and Rebecca Hammar placed fourth and fifth, respectively in the top flight of the women's discus.
Duvio was among four of the eight competitors to clear the 17-0 3/4 opening height, doing so on his second try. After redshirting the indoor season, this was the opening effort of 2015 for the sophomore. The bar moved up to 17-6 1/2 -- Duvio's personal record -- but he was not among the two who cleared it.
Allman threw 177-10 and Hammar 176-1. Allman, a sophomore, had her best throw on her first attempt. Her three legal throws each was over 175-10. Hammar improved steadily through each of her first five throws, with her best coming on her fifth toss.
While many of Stanford's field event athletes have competed in two meets already, the Cardinal opens the season in earnest on Friday and Saturday at the Stanford Invitational at Cobb Track and Angell Field.
