AUSTIN, Texas - Macahla Wesley (Austin, Texas), Anne Harwig (Tampa, Fla.) and Peri Howser (Newport Beach, Calif.) have each signed a National Letter of Intent to compete for the Texas Track & Field program for the 2013-14 season.

Wesley, a sprinter from Johnson High School in Austin, finished her senior season ranked top-10 in the 200 meters among high school girls in the state of Texas. She has competed at the Texas State Track & Field Championships in each of her three years of high school in Texas after relocating from Topeka, Kan., most recently finishing fifth in the Class 4A 200 meters with a time of 24.48 seconds. Wesley advanced to the state meet with victories at the 4A regional (personal-best 24.34) and 26-4A district meet (25.28).

As a freshman at Topeka West High School in 2010, Wesley set a Kansas 5A state high school record in the 200 meters with a time of 24.32. She also tied the existing 5A state 100m record with a time of 11.90, before moving to Texas prior to her sophomore campaign.

Harwig, a sophomore transfer from Florida State, and Howser, of Newport Harbor High School, will join the growing Longhorn pole vault contingent that found great success on the conference and national stage in 2013.

As a freshman at FSU in 2013, Harwig cleared a season-best 11-3.75 (3.45m) at the Seminole Invitational in April. The mark was just short of her collegiate best of 11-5.75 (3.50m) that she posted during the 2013 indoor season. The Austin native previously spent her senior high school season in Tampa after attending Austin’s St. Michael’s Catholic Academy her freshman, sophomore and junior years. She was the 2012 Florida Class 2A state runner-up, clearing a personal-best 11-6.

Howser arrives on the Forty Acres after establishing herself as one of the most promising pole-vaulters in the country. Since beginning her pole vault career as a prep school freshman, Howser has improved her personal-best to 11 feet, 9 inches, which at the time placed her top-20 in California. She was third at the CIF-Southern Section Division II meet, with a clearance of 11-0.
