Local marathoner Daniel Tapia makes U.S. team

For someone who couldn't break 10 minutes in the 3,200 at North County, Tapia came of age at Hartnell. He evolved into one of the premier collegiate long distance runners, completing 5,000 meters in 14:35.

"I wasn't the best athlete in high school,'' Tapia said. "It just shows if you're willing to work, who knows what you can do someday. Sometimes hard work beats talent.''
