PRRO Circuit Bonus Increases to $15,000 for 2013-2014 Season

Four runners - Mamitu Daska, Sammy Kitwara, Buzunesh Deba and Belete Assefa - went into the AJC Peachtree Road Race last week with a chance to add the 2012-2013 season-ending $10,000 Professional Road Running Organization (PRRO) Circuit Bonus to their winnings, but in the end no one captured the PRRO prize.

Mosinet Geremew of Ethiopia and Lineth Chepkurui of Kenya were victorious at the 44th Peachtree 10K with respective times of 28 minutes, 7 seconds, and 32:09, while Assefa came closest among the four eligible runners to capturing the Circuit Bonus, as he finished a scant two seconds behind Geremew in the men's race.

Results of the eligible runners were as follows: Men: Belete Assefa, ETH, 2nd, 28:09; Sammy Kitwara, KEN, 4th, 28:17. Women: Deba Buzunesh, ETH, 4th, 32:35; Mamitu Daska, ETH, 5th, 32:39.

Under rules of the PRRO Circuit, an athlete who wins one of the first four PRRO Circuit events, and finishes first at the PRRO Championship at the AJC Peachtree Road Race, claims the PRRO Circuit Bonus. The Bonus is split if an eligible male and female both win the Championship at Peachtree. If no eligible athlete wins, then the Bonus grows by an additional $5,000 for the following season. Since no one took home the prize this year, the 2013-2014 Circuit Bonus increases to $15,000.

Mountain Running's Best Headed to New Hampshire

NORTH CONWAY, NH - The nation's best mountain runners will literally descend Cranmore Mountain on Sunday, July 21. The 26th Cranmore Hill Climb presented by Northeast Delta Dental offers a four-kilometer loop course, which the men will run three times and women will run two times. The route is a mixture of single-track trail, wide pathways, meadows, rocky terrain, and some steep ascents and descents to test the mettle of competitors.

For the first time, the USA Mountain Running Championships, the North American Central America Caribbean (NACAC) Mountain Running Championships, and the U.S. Mountain Team selection will all happen simultaneously at Cranmore resulting in the, 'race within the race,' moniker and the promise of an amazing day of competition.

"We are continuing to see a higher and higher level of competition at our USA Mountain Running Championships every year,"noted Race Director Paul Kirsch. "The tremendous success the team has had at the World Mountain Running Championships over the past decade is causing a real growth in the depth of the field at our qualifying events and championship."

Of the 200 runners registered to date, over 80 percent are members of USATF which is the national governing body for the sport.

Ashworth Awards Donates to One Fund Boston

NORTH ATTLEBORO, Mass. - Since the tragic events during this year's Boston Marathon, Ashworth Awards has put in their best effort to ease the pain that was caused, as well as help with the repercussions of the horrible event.

Kim and Dan Ashworth, owners of Ashworth Awards, created their own Boston Strong pins to sell to raise support for
One Fund Boston. Ashworth Awards has managed to raise almost $3,000 through the sale of Boston Strong pins.

The money raised through the Boston Strong pins, as well as an additional $10,000 donation, was given to the One Fund Boston at the end of June 2013.

Kim and Dan Ashworth commented: "There is nothing more important than supporting your community, especially in a time of need. Ashworth Awards is proud to stand by Boston's running community and be a part of the One Fund Boston's strive to aid those who were affected on April 15, 2013. As the awards company who manufactures the Boston Marathon medallions, contributing to the One Fund Boston is the best way of showing love and support to the city of Boston and those who suffered while watching and partaking in this historic race."

RRCA Earns BBB Wise Giving Alliance National Charity Seal

ARLINGTON, Va. - The Road Runners Club of America has been awarded a Wise Giving Alliance National Charity Seal from the Better Business Bureau.
The BBB Wise Giving Alliance
national charity carries great meaning for both donors and charities. For donors, the appearance of the seal in a charity's mailings, on its website, in newspaper and magazine advertisements or elsewhere is a clear and concise sign that the charity meets the Alliance's Standards for Charity Accountability.

"I am very proud of the RRCA Board of Directors for working so hard to ensure our organization could earn this recognition," explains Jean Knaack, RRCA Executive Director. "Knowing that the RRCA is one of the only sports-focused organizations in the country to be a current National BBB Wise Giving Alliance Charity Seal member is a great honor for our organization and our sport of running."
