Cal Returns To Top 25 For First Time Since 2010

BERKELEY – Cal returned to the nation’s Top 25 on Sunday for the first time since 2010 with the Golden Bears ranked No. 24 in the week five AP Top 25 and tied for No. 24 in the Amway Coaches Poll receiving 149 and 89 votes, respectively. Cal is also No. 22 in the NCAA College Football Power Rankings with 39 points. The Bears’ last national ranking was at No. 24 in the week three USA Today Coaches’ Poll after a 2-0 start in 2010.
Cal (4-0, 1-0 Pac-12) is unbeaten for the first time after four games since 2007 and one of 29 FBS teams in the nation without a loss in 2015 following a pair of home wins to open the season against Grambling State and San Diego State before back-to-back road victories at Texas and in its Pac-12 opener Saturday at Washington.
Cal is one victory shy of matching the school’s best start over the last 65 seasons since the 1950 squad won its first nine games during a 9-1-1 campaign. Cal has won its first five games six times (1952, 1991, 1993, 1996, 2005, 2007) since 1950, while the 1948 and 1949 teams both won their school-record-tying first 10 contests.
Cal returns to Kabam Field at California Memorial Stadium in its next contest for homecoming against Washington State on Saturday, Oct. 3. The game will be televised live by the Pac-12 Networks and kick off from Kabam Field at California Memorial Stadium at 1 p.m. PT.
