Clovis California to host 2016 USATF Junior Outdoor Track & Field Championships

INDIANAPOLIS/CLOVIS, Calif. -- Named local organizing committee for the 2016 USA Track & Field Championships, the Clovis Unified School District will host athletes ages 14-19 competing for national titles from June 24-26 at Veterans Memorial Stadium in Clovis, California, USATF announced Wednesday.

The Junior Outdoor Championships are traditionally held in conjunction with the USATF Outdoor Championships. However, the Junior meet once again returns to a standalone event as the 2016 elite event hosts the U.S. Olympic Trials - Track & Field, which will select Team USA’s Olympic hopefuls.

Clovis Unified School District has a long history of hosting quality national, state and regional athletic events, and has for the last seven years hosted the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) Track and Field Championships, one of the most prestigious high school meets in the country.

The organizing committee’s commitment to the continued development of Veterans Memorial Stadium, featuring a Super X Mondo track surface along with the recently upgraded the field event and warm-up areas, a stellar record for hosting spectacular events, and a willingness to partner with USATF in national events has made it a perfect west coast venue to host a meet of this caliber.

“We anticipate the 2016 USATF Junior Outdoor Track & Field Championships to be an exciting event showcasing America’s rising track and field stars, as the top finishers vie for a chance to represent Team USA at the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) World Junior Championships in Kazan, Russia, later in the summer,” said Carlo Prandini, deputy superintendent of Clovis Unified School District.
