Defending Champion Rita Jeptoo and Two-Time Olympic Medalist Eliud Kipchoge Claim Victory in Chicago
CHICAGO (Sunday, Oct. 12, 2014) -- The 2014
Bank of America Chicago Marathon saw a record 40,802 runners crossed the finish line in Grant Park under ideal weather conditions. The men's race saw a Kenyan sweep with Eliud Kipchoge stealing the show in 2 hours, 4 minutes, 11 seconds, and Sammy Kitwara and Dickson Chumba dueling for second, with Kitwara out-striding Chumba.

"They say if you have a will, then you will be successful," said Kipchoge, winning his first World Marathon Major and third marathon. "I had a will to transition to the marathon and that is why I have been able to win so well."

In the women's race, Rita Jeptoo (KEN) easily defended her title, breaking the tape in 2:24:35. Mare Dibaba (ETH) held on for second in 2:25:37, and current half-marathon world record holder, Florence Kiplagat (KEN), secured a podium finish in 2:25:57.

Daska, Desisa Crowned Champions of the 14th B.A.A. Half Marathon

BOSTON (Sunday, Oct. 12, 2014) - On a picture perfect day for racing, Ethiopians Mamitu Daska and Lelisa Desisa (right, image courtesy PhotoRun.net) were crowned champions at the 14th B.A.A. Half Marathon, presented by Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and the Jimmy Fund. Daska established a new event record of 1 hour, 8 minutes, 20 seconds, while Desisa earned his second consecutive B.A.A. Half Marathon victory in 1:01:38, covering the rolling, spectacular course through Boston's Emerald Necklace park system in style.

The B.A.A. Half Marathon is the third and final event of the 2014 B.A.A. Distance Medley, a three-race series which combines the B.A.A. 5K on April 19, the B.A.A. 10K on June 22, and today's B.A.A. Half Marathon. More than 2000 of the half marathon's entrants were participants in all three races in 2014.

Smiling from ear to ear, the 30-year-old Daska had a race to remember. Through the opening miles, Daska found herself among a lead pack of five that included Kenyans Betsy Saina and Cynthia Limo, as well as American Molly Huddle. Together, they passed five miles in 25:48.

Gallagher Sets New Course Record at 30th Army 10 Miler

ARLINGTON, Va. (Sunday, Oct. 12, 2014) - Remember the movie, "Groundhog Day?" Watching the 30th
running of the Army Ten Miler today was like reliving the 29th edition of the race - nearly verbatim.

The same Brazilians who went 1-2 in the men's race last race went 1-2 in the men's race this year. They ran virtually identical races as last year, save for the fact that they ran considerably slower today under perfect conditions versus last year's chilly temps. The Brazilians also repeated their 1-2-3 sweep of the race.

The same woman - Arlington native Kerri Gallagher - who set the course record last year in winning the nation's second largest 10-miler broke her own record this year by six seconds in 54 minutes, 50 seconds, running a bit faster than her winning times of the previous two years and doing it solo for the last nine miles of the course.

Nearly the same number of runners actually made it to the finish this year - 26,238, out of more than 35,000 entrants.
