Dave Carey

Dave Carey, age 74, a resident of Naperville, IL since 1969, formerly of Montclair, NJ, died Wednesday, October 1, 2014 after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease . Dave was born October 2, 1939 in Glen Ridge, NJ, the son of the late Richard and Jean (Crockett) Carey.
Beloved husband of Audrey (nee Peterson) Carey, loving father of Elizabeth (Ray) Lopez, dear grandfather of Evan Lopez and brother of the late Marjorie Carey.
Dave retired in 2008 from Fermi Lab after 39 years of service as a physicist. He enjoyed extensive traveling and was an avid bird watcher and statistician of track and field. He was a graduate of the MIT (Class of 1962) with a BS in Physics; and received his PhD in Physics from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor (Class of 1967).

His passion for track and field and the compilation of statistics continued until the end of his life. He was a co-author (with Scott Davis and Don Potts) of The Progression of the American National Record (1999), and he left a large and varied library of publications about the sport for posterity.
