Brandon Bonsey returns to his alma mater as an assistant coach for the Georgetown track & field / cross country program following a two-year stint with the Syracuse track & field program. The former Hoya will work primarily with the middle distance and distance runners for the men's team.
As an assistant coach for the last three years, he used his knowledge and collegiate experience in distance running to help train middle distance and distance runners at both places he's coached.
At Syracuse, Bonsey worked primarily with the middle distance and distance runners for both the men's and women's teams, while also assisting with recruiting and coordinating team travel. He helped guide the men's cross country team to a 2010 BIG EAST team championship. The Syracuse men finished the 2010 cross country season with a 14th-place finish at the NCAA Championships while the women posted top-20 finishes in both 2010 (10th) and 2011 (17th). Both cross country teams won the Northeast Regional Cross Country Championships in both 2010 and 2011.
During his time with the Orange, Syracuse had four student-athletes earn All-America honors in Tito Medrano, Pat Dupont, Lauren Penney and Katie Hursey. Additionally, SU had three individual BIG EAST Champions in outdoor track & field in Tito Medrano, Pat Dupont and Sarah Pagano.
Bonsey's tutelage led Jace Lowry to the 2012 USA Track & Field (USATF) Junior Cross Country title.
Prior to working with the Orange, Bonsey spent one year as an assistant with the Hoyas. In addition to assisting with the middle distance and distance runners, he was responsible for coordinating the recruiting process, daily practices and travel arrangements for the Hoyas.
During his prior stint at Georgetown, Bonsey helped guide Andrew Bumbalough to All-America status in cross country and to third-place finishes at the NCAA and USA Championships in the 5,000-meter run. He also helped train Mike Krisch to All-America status in cross country and to a 13th-place finish at the NCAA Championships in the 10,000-meter run.
During Bonsey's junior year as a student-athlete in 2007, he finished fifth in the 1,000-meter at the BIG EAST Indoor Championship garnering All-BIG EAST honors. He ran a personal-best mile time of 4:04.21 that same season at the indoor Terrier Classic and earlier that year, Bonsey placed 36th at the BIG EAST Cross Country Championship. During his sophomore season, he earned All-BIG EAST honors as a member of the 4x800-meter relay team that placed third at the BIG EAST Indoor Championship. In 2005, his first year at Georgetown, Bonsey competed at the USA Jr. National Track & Field Championship in the 1,500-meter event.
As a proven coach in the track & field realm, Bonsey has a real knack for effective leadership, having captained the cross country and indoor and outdoor track teams during his senior year. He was chosen to participate in the Veteran Leaders Program; a Georgetown leadership program designed for team captains to develop the skills and knowledge critical to be an effective and vocal leader.
The Falmouth, Maine native participated in cross country and indoor and outdoor track for Georgetown from 2004-09, graduating from Georgetown in 2009 with a bachelor's degree in government.

Keith Conning: My son Andrew Conning, 42, graduated summa cum laude from Georgetown in 1994. He majored in Spanish and Latin American politics. He received a great education at Georgetown. He currently speaks English, Spanish, Japanese, and Mandarin.
