Member Profile:

Windermere Marathon and Half Marathon

The 6th Annual Windermere Marathon and Half Marathon will take place in Spokane, WA, on June 1, 2014. The events offer big city amenities at small town prices.

The marathon is a USATF certified course and a Boston qualifier. The course is scenic and fast along the Spokane River with an overall elevation drop of over 200 feet. The half marathon is a USATF certified course which is scenic and fast with an overall elevation drop of over 100 feet.



Each runner receives an attractive gender-specific, long sleeve microsmooth Milano Race Shirt, with quarter zipper, in a beautiful red color this year.



The U. S. Marines will present the "blinged out" shining and spinning flying winged shoe Finisher's Medal which is a candidate for Best 25 Medals in the Nation Contest sponsored by Marathon and Beyond Magazine. The Lovely Princesses of the Spokane Lilac Festival Royal Court will distribute a fresh long stemmed red rose to each finisher.



To memorialize this achievement, we are giving each finisher a complimentary victory stand photo as a gift. To enhance the runner's experience of this fun event, there will be a post-race party celebration with hot food, beer garden and music.

New York Road Runners Named Title Sponsor of Millrose Games
New York Road Runners (NYRR) will become the title sponsor of the 2014 Millrose Games, the most prestigious indoor track & field event in the United States. The 2014 NYRR Millrose Games will take place at the New Balance Track & Field Center at The Armory, February 15, 2014.


Council for Responsible Sport Announces Certifications

The 2013 Cincinnati Flying Pig Marathon, powered by P&G, has earned silver level certification from the Council for Responsible Sport for efforts to reduce the event's environmental footprint and increase its social impact. The Flying Pig Marathon's sustainability program is titled Greening the Pig. The 2013 Scotiabank Vancouver Half Marathon and 5k has earned silver level certification from the Council for Responsible Sport for efforts to reduce the event's environmental footprint and increase its social impact.



ACTIVE Network Celebrates Fall Marathon Season

ACTIVE Network, Inc., has powered more than 100,000 marathon runners across the finish line since the start of the fall 2013 marathon season. ACTIVE Network is the technology partner to four of the 10 largest marathons in the US. Among the largest fall marathons, the Portland Marathon celebrated its 41st anniversary in October with more than 9,300 participants.



OC Marathon Gears Up for 10th Anniversary

The OC Marathon heads into its 10th anniversary year poised to break several event records from entries in the full and half marathons and the obesity-fighting Kids Run the OC to economic impact and charitable fundraising. Set for May 4, 2014, the OC Marathon is considered one of the best full and half marathon courses in the state with its diverse terrain, changing vistas and majestic ocean views.



ASICS Announces Sponsorship

Foot Locker announced that ASICS America will be the presenting sponsor and official apparel, footwear and accessories provider for the Foot Locker Cross Country Championships through 2015. This year, the Northeast, Midwest, and South regional races will be held on November 30, while the West regional race will take place on December 7. The Finals will be held on December 14, in San Diego, CA.



ACTIVE Network to Power 5K Foam Fest Events

ACTIVE Network celebrates its first year with Round House Racing as the technology partner for their flagship event, the 5K Foam Fest. The 5K Foam Fest attracts up to 10,000 participants to each event and has grown from three events in 2011, to 24 events in 2013. In 2014, Round House Racing plans to increase to 35 events and expand globally.

The Grandma's Marathon-Duluth, Inc., board of directors has selected
Jon Carlson as the organization's new executive director. Carlson had served as race director since July 2003, and was a Grandma's Marathon board member from October 2002, until being hired as a full-time employee. Carlson officially began his new role on an interim basis on September 1. He has taken over for Scott Keenan who stepped down August 31, after 37 years with the organization. Keenan started Grandma's Marathon with the North Shore Striders Running Club in 1977. To fill the vacancy created by Carlson's promotion, Bill Brown was hired for the race director position. Other additions to the staff include Joey Moore, (Support Services Coordinator) and Kelli Rengo, (Office Assistant).


Matt Judge, longtime software supplier to the running industry and friend of Running USA, has launched TJC Event Solutions, providing online and on-site technical solutions designed to increase revenue for races.



Javier Sanchez has been named General Manager of US Road Sports Florida Division & Race Director of the state's elite running event, replacing the departed David Scott. Sanchez will work in tandem with Miami Marathon co-founder Frankie Ruiz, who is US Road Sports Chief Running Officer, and will oversee the continued growth of the Miami Marathon, an event that has evolved into Florida's elite distance test while annually attracting 25,000 runners from around the world.

2014 Run Like A Mother Series seeks a Race Director in Raleigh, NC.



The Run Like A Mother race series is held each year on Mother's Day. Now offered in 8 cities across the nation. With a mission to fuel a woman's journey through health & wellness; empower with education and training programs; inspire with communities, events and races; enable through programs and partnerships - it isn't just a race; it's our way of life.



We are seeking a race director for Raleigh, NC, for the 2014 calendar year. The ideal person must be energetic, inspiring and passionate about women's running. While experience in the running industry is preferred, we certainly will consider those with a drive for making a difference. This is a salaried work-from-home part-time position with a bonus structure for results in sponsorship sales and participant growth. The individual must be able to self-manage and self-motivate (although we will provide plenty of coaching, camaraderie and fun for a successful event). Responsibilities include overall management of the event; sponsorship sales; volunteer coordination and management, training program facilitator, and pre-race, race day and post race planning and execution.

Job Title: Manager of Charity Partnerships

This position reports to the Chief Operating Officer. The Manager must understand and appreciate charitable fundraising through endurance events and has the proven experience necessary to grow the ASICS LA Marathon charity program.


Position Requirements/Skills include:

* Bachelor's degree preferred

* 3 to 5 years' experience working in non-profit environment

* Event management and fund raising position at non-profit organization preferred

* Knowledge of and interest in running/endurance sports a plus
