Member Profile:
The Kauai Marathon


In 2013, The Kauai Marathon celebrated its fifth running on September 1, in Poipu, Kauai. Both marathon and half marathon distances were offered. And, for this year's event, a new fundraising element entitled, "The One Grand Mile Campaign" was added.



The One Grand Mile Campaign was set up by race founder Jeff Sacchini and his wife Liz Sacchini. For each mile marker along the Kauai Half Marathon course purchased for $1,000, Jeff and Liz matched the dollar amount. The goal was to sell the first 13 mile markers raising a total of $26,000 with one hundred percent of the monies raised benefiting non profit organizations on Kauai in 2013. The businesses of Kauai embraced the campaign and purchased all thirteen mile markers. Lawai Beach Resort was the first organization to sign up, followed by Kauai Heritage Properties, KIUC, The Parrish Collection Kauai, Kukui'ula Development Company, No Ka Oi Landscaping, DuPont Pioneer, America's Mattress, Captain Andy's Sailing, Live Koloa, Kukui Grove, Kilohana Plantation and Wala'au.



A panel of community members and race organizers decided on the distribution of funds. The non-profit recipients for the One Grand Mile charity campaign included, The YMCA of Kauai, Kauai Hospice, Kauai Museum, Water Safety Task Force, KPAL and Life's Bridges who will collectively receive $26,000.



The 6th Annual Kauai Marathon is scheduled for August 31, 2014. The marathon and half marathon courses are certified by USATF. The headquarters hotel will be the luxurious Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort & Spa, which hosts the Sports & Fitness Expo, Event Registration, Fun Run, Keiki Run and more.

Houston Marathon Committee Announces Partnership

The Houston Marathon Committee announced the partners in their 2014 We Are Houston program, a partnership of 15 Houston area corporations that serve to underwrite production costs of the 2014 Chevron Houston Marathon, Aramco Houston Half Marathon and ABB 5K. The 2014 We Are Houston partners include Chevron, Aramco Services Company, ABB, Bank of Texas, Memorial Hermann, HEB, Houston First Corporation, Harris County Houston Sports Authority, Precision Drilling, Swift Worldwide Resources, Silver Eagle Distributors, Waste Management, King & Spalding Law, Superior Energy Services and Calpine Corporation.



New York Road Runners Announces Partnership

New York Road Runners is partnering with the U.S. Fund for UNICEF on a "Run for the Philippines" initiative to support UNICEF's emergency efforts to aid children impacted by Typhoon Haiyan. NYRR will also match the first $26,200 in donations by members of the running community across the nation.



ACTIVE Network Announces Partnership

The ACTIVE Network, Inc., has been selected by Electric Run as the exclusive global technology partner to expand into more than 20 countries in major cities including, London, Dublin, Milan, Amsterdam, Berlin, Barcelona, Tokyo and Dubai. The Electric Run celebrates its first anniversary leveraging ACTIVE Network's technology platform, which has supported more than 228,000 participants in 38 domestic events since November 2012.



B.A.A. to Assign Remaining Entries in Boston Marathon®

The Boston Athletic Association (B.A.A.), organizer of the Boston Marathon®, will issue a limited number of invitational entries for the 2014 Boston Marathon for those who were most impacted by the events of April 15, 2013. Read more at this link.



Palm Beaches Marathon Celebrates Running

The Palm Beaches Marathon and Run Fest presented by Publix will return December 6-8, with its usual series of running events, an expo, and fun innovations such as a Friday 5K/10K, a simultaneous half marathon on Sunday, wacky water stations and a post-race downtown party at Waterfront Commons Park. This is the event's 10th year and the second under the operation of US Road Sports.

2014 Run Like A Mother Series seeks Race Directors: Frisco, TX; Raleigh, NC; and Seattle, WA



The Run Like A Mother race series is held each year on Mother's Day. Now offered in 8 cities across the nation. With a mission to fuel a woman's journey through health & wellness; empower with education and training programs; inspire with communities, events and races; enable through programs and partnerships - it isn't just a race; it's our way of life.



We are seeking race directors for Frisco, TX; Raleigh, NC; and Seattle, WA for the 2014 calendar year. The ideal person must be energetic, inspiring and passionate about women's running. While experience in the running industry is preferred, we certainly will consider those with a drive for making a difference. This is a salaried work-from-home part-time position with a bonus structure for results in sponsorship sales and participant growth. The individual must be able to self-manage and self-motivate (although we will provide plenty of coaching, camaraderie and fun for a successful event). Responsibilities include overall management of the event; sponsorship sales; volunteer coordination and management, training program facilitator, and pre-race, race day and post race planning and execution.

* 3 to 5 years' experience working in non-profit environment
