Running USA Board of Directors - Call for Nominations
Running USA is governed by a Board of Directors and each year, the members of Running USA elect new directors to serve on the board. Send your nominations, or questions to membership@runningUSA.org. Nominations due November 15.


Race Director Workshop powered by ACTIVE Network

Running USA will host a one-day race director workshop in Austin, TX, on Wednesday, December 4, 2013, at the Austin Hilton which is the host hotel for The Running Event. The preliminary agenda is available HERE. Attendance is limited in order to maintain a hands-on, interactive approach. Registration is OPEN.



Running USA Inaugural Online Auction Open Now

Running USA's first online auction, which will replace the "live" auction that is typically conducted at the annual conference, will be held now through November 25, 2013.

Powered by imATHLETE, the Survival of the Shawangunks (aka the S.O.S. Triathlon) sold out of its 2014 participant spots within five minutes after registration opened at midnight on November 1.



Houston Marathon Committee Joins International Institute for Race Medicine

The Houston Marathon Committee (HMC) announced that the HMC has joined the International Institute for Race Medicine
(IIRM) becoming the first official member of the organization. Formerly known as the Association for Road Race Medicine (AARMS), the IIRM is an international collective of medical professionals with the goal of furthering research, education and best practices in marathons and other endurance road races throughout the world.


Active at Altitude partners with Vacation Races

Active at Altitude has partnered with Vacation Races to provide training programs for their 2014 series of six half marathons based at National Parks across North America. Participants can sign up for a training program at either beginner or intermediate levels. Active at Altitude will also provide regular training tips on a Blog for Vacation Races. Each race in the series will also feature an Active Mind Race Camp to help runners prepare their minds to be race ready.

RunSignUp Announces New Program

RunSignUp and The Race Director recently announced a full integration for participant and result download, upload and syncing, with the release of The Race Director 2014.


RedFox Wireless Launches New Gear

Redfox Wireless will unveil their revolutionary collection of fitness and sports electronics on December 6 and 7, at the MetroPCS Dallas Marathon. Their premium fitness and sports electronics include a collection of state-of-the-art wireless headphones and music transmitters.


Big Sur Half Marathon on Monterey Bay Sells out

The Big Sur Half Marathon to be held November 17, on Monterey Bay boasts a sellout field for this year's race of 9,000 runners. Race weekend events include the Pacific Grove Lighthouse 5K, offering a certified course, timing and age group awards; and the JUST RUN! Just Kids 3K fun run, both held on November 16.

ZOOMA Announces Sponsorship

The Muscle Milk Light ZOOMA Women's Race Series announces a partnership with Feetures! Performance Socks, which will serve as the Official Performance Sock for all ZOOMA events in 2014. ZOOMA, the first national women's half marathon series, will host nearly 10,000 women at six races in 2014.



Wine Country Half Marathon Opens Registration

The Napa-to-Sonoma Wine Country Half Marathon opens for registration at Noon PST on Thursday, November 14. Produced by Destination Races, the 11th annual race will be held on July 20, 2014. Last year's sold-out event brought nearly 4,000 runners into the region.


Chevron Houston Marathon Announces Prize Purse

The Houston Marathon Committee (HMC) announced the elite prize purse for the 2014 Chevron Houston Marathon and Aramco Houston Half Marathon. A total of $259,000 in guaranteed prize money will be awarded to the top finishers in the four races on race day, including a $40,000 first place payout for each the men's and women's champions at the 2014 Chevron Houston Marathon.



Saucony® and Runner's World Premier "Finding Strong"

The independent documentary film, Finding Strong, produced by global performance running footwear and apparel brand Saucony in collaboration with Runner's World magazine, took place at the New York Institute of Technology Auditorium in New York City on November 2. ACTIVE Network Announces Record

ACTIVE Network is sending 17 employees to Tempe on November 17, for IRONMAN Arizona thereby setting a record for having the largest number of employees compete in a single IRONMAN race. The 17 employees will join the long list of ACTIVE employees who, over the years, have competed in more than 120 IRONMAN events, including two at the recent IRONMAN World Championship in Kona.



Sandy Hook Run for the Families Wins Award

The Hartford Marathon Foundation's Sandy Hook Run for the Families was awarded "Best Amateur Single-Sport Event" by SportsTravel Magazine at the TEAMS '13 Conference & Expo in Salt Lake City last week. The Hartford Marathon Foundation donated its resources to produce the Sandy Hook Run for the Families and enlisted support of longtime business, community and civic partners in honoring the memories of victims and supporting all of those affected by the tragedy in Newtown.

Marathons of Wisconsin to Debut in 2014

Marathons of Wisconsin asks runners to participate in five Wisconsin marathons or half marathons throughout the course of the year. Athletes who complete all five events will receive a commemorative medal. Events include: Icebreaker Indoor Marathon & Half Marathon, Milwaukee, January 2014; Wisconsin Marathon & Half Marathon, Kenosha, May 2014; Madison Half Marathon, Madison, May 2014; Fox Cities Marathon, Neenah, September 2014; Madison Marathon & Half Marathon, November 2014.



Sports Medicine Symposium Announced

The first-ever sports medicine symposium will be held at the MetroPCS Dallas Marathon at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center on Saturday, December 7, 2013 in Dallas, Texas. Click here to view the agenda.

Honorees at Road Race Management Race Directors' Meeting

Jerry Frostick, Co-Director of the Yuengling Shamrock Marathon Weekend (Virginia Beach, VA), was named the MarathonFoto/Road Race Management Race Director of the Year. The award was presented by Electric City Printing.




Don Kardong was announced as the first-ever MarathonFoto/Road Race Management Lifetime Achievement Award winner. Kardong was recognized for contributions to the sport of long distance road running over the course of a lifetime.

This position reports to the Chief Operating Officer. The Manager must understand and appreciate charitable fundraising through endurance events and has the proven experience necessary to grow the ASICS LA Marathon charity program.


Position Requirements/Skills include:

* Bachelor's degree preferred

* 3 to 5 years' experience working in non-profit environment

* Event management and fund raising position at non-profit organization preferred

* Knowledge of and interest in running/endurance sports a plus
