Three more national records fall at Junior Olympics
7/27/2012
BALTIMORE, Md. - Spectators witnessed an additional three national records at the USA Track & Field National Junior Olympic Championships Friday as competition continued at W.A.C. Hughes Stadium on the campus of Morgan State University. The trio of records bring the total to seven for the Championships.
Midget Boy’s high jumper Sean Lee (USA High Jump Club) set the bar high for today’s competition when he broke a 33-year-old record set by David Mosley in 1979. Lee’s jump of 1.76m/5-9.25 was just enough to break Mosley’s record of 1.75m/5-9. Lee also took home the USA Youth Outdoor high jump championship earlier this summer.
The momentum continued over to the Sub-Bantam Girls shot put where Kimora Daniel (Peak Performance) smashed the national record of 6.69m/21-11.5 set by Bonee Harden at last year’s Junior Olympics. Daniel’s throw of 7.34m/24-01 was well over Harden’s record and was almost three feet ahead of her nearest competitor.
The third national record was broken in the Sub-Bantam Girls 4x400m relay. The Los Angeles Jets Track Club made up of Eleya Brown, Kyli Dixon, Sydney Holden and Lucea Wright ran a time of 4:58.22 to break Track Houston’s record of 5:05 set in 2011. As the 4x400m relay was only in the preliminary stage, the Los Angeles Jets will look to break their record again and take home the national championship in the finals.
