Outstanding Achievements
Fred was the Pacific Coast Northern Division Champion in the 440 for the University of Oregon in 1954. He also played football for John McKay. When John came to USC as a head football coach, Fred automatically became a great Trojan booster.

Fred was an avid reader of the results of high school athletics. He began preparing lists of outstanding high school athletes for the USC coaching staff. Soon every coach at USC was interested in his lists. He did no recruiting himself, but his lists helped McKay in football, Vern Wolfe and Ken Matsuda in track, and Rob Boyd in basketball.

During the last ten years, Fred started the "Link in the Chain" program to allow elementary age students to attend USC home track meets at no charge. He supports the program financially through his own donations and other fund raising activities.
