PROVIDENCE, R.I. - This week's BIG EAST track and field notebook includes highlights from teams' final tune-ups before the BIG EAST Indoor Track & Field Championships Feb. 20-21. The BIG EAST's complete top performances list can be accessed at www.directathletics.com.
Louisville (women): The University of Louisville women's indoor track and field team also competed at the Hoosier Hills Invitational on Feb. 12 in Bloomington, Ind. The 12th-ranked Cardinals were led by throwers junior D'Ana McCarty and senior Jere' Summers (Berkeley High School, Berkeley, Ca; Cal State Northridge) who placed first and second in the weight throw and first and third in the shot put. McCarty, the reigning NCAA Indoor weight throw champion, won both the shot put and the weight throw. Her toss of 15.57 meters in the shot put was an NCAA provisional qualifier, while her heave of 22.34 meters in the weight throw was an NCAA automatic qualifier. Summers finished second in the weight throw with an NCAA automatic mark of 21.60 meters and third in the shot put with an NCAA provisional distance of 15.37 meters. Senior Rachel Gehret won both the long jump (5.84 meters) and the high jump (1.80 meters). Her mark in the high jump was an NCAA provisional qualifier.
