July 23 Morning Session Quotes - Pan American Games

7/23/2015

Kyra Jefferson, 100m (second qualifying heat)

On the race overall
“This is my first 200 since USAs, so it’s a little difficult - more difficult than I expected. But it’s okay. The goal was just to make it to the semis.”

Kaylin Whitney, 100m (first in qualifying heat)

On the race overall
“Coming into this race in lane 1, I knew I had to run the race very well. I did that, and it was a good time. I’m heading on to the semis later.”

On preparations heading into the semis
“We’ll see how it plays out - how they do the heats. I mean regardless, I'm going to get out hard and just keep it until the finish line.”

On representing her country as an indvidual after competing in Diamond League
“It’s awesome. I have been so blessed to be given the opportunities I’ve had this year - to be able to travel the world and compete for my country.”

Wallace Spearmon, 200m (second in qualifying heat)

On finishing top-two in the heat
"I wanted to get top two as easy as possible, and it wasn’t worth it to try to win that race too fast. I’ve got another one tonight."

On changes for tonight
"I might run a little harder and that’s about it."

On the race overall
"My start was terrible, and they held us for a long time. I accelerated on the turn onto the straight. When I realized I was in the top-two runners, I stayed right there."

BeeJay Lee, 200m (third in qualifying heat)

“I’m good. Just bouncing back from yesterday, staying focused, and I’ve got to get to the finals so that I can get a medal for my team.”

“This is why I do two events and not one. (It’s) so that when things do not go one way or another, I’ll be able to make up for it in the other one.”

“To have a second event is just a blessing, and I’m thankful that I’m strong enough to do it.”
