Thomas Joyce, who was the conference’s runner-up in the 1,500 with a time of 3:46.46, being edged by Washington’s Izaic Yorks’ mark of 3:46.42. Redshirt sophomore Ethan Cochran also was a conference runner-up, finishing second in the discus with a throw of 188-09 (57.54m)
Another top effort for the Bears was junior triple jumper Jonte Grant, who placed third with a leap of 51-06.25 (15.70m). Junior Noel Frazier had personal best in the high jump, placing fourth by clearing a height of 7-1.00.
Scoring nine points for Cal in the 400 meter hurdles were Jonte Turner (51.84) and Jalen Doss (52.44), placing fourth and fifth respectively. Scoring seven points for Cal in the 800 meters were Eugene Hamilton III, who was fifth (1:48.18), and Ellis Newton, who was sixth (1:49.64). The Cal men’s 4x100 relay also placed fifth with a time of 40.42.
“We are proud that Thomas, Ethan and Jonte were able to make the podium today,” said Cal Director of Track and Field Tony Sandoval. “Our results were less than we expected, but we competed hard in a very tough conference. We have some time to get ready for NCAA Regionals in Austin (Thursday, May 28-Saturday, May 30).”
