The top 25 female high school cross country athletes of the year
1. Sarah Baxter, 11, Simi Valley, Simi Valley, CA
Baxter pulled away from Mary Cain to defend her NXN title in the mud of Portland and complete a spectacular campaign. In going unbeaten, she took down standards held by all-time greats at California’s most hallowed venues, running 16:00 at the Mt. SAC Invite (16:15, Amber Trotter) and 16:39 in D1 State at Woodward Park (16:43, Julia Stamps).
21. Marissa Williams, 10, Palisades Charter HS, Los Angeles, CA
Williams was just 18th in the Division 1 state finals, but she roared back at Foot Locker West, winning by 29 seconds, then led in San Diego after bursting from the line before hanging on for eighth.
24. Hagen Reedy, 12, Buchanan HS, Clovis, CA
Buchanan’s home is the famed Woodward Park, the state champs course, and Reedy blitzed the course four times at 17:11 or better, including a 16:59 at the Clovis Invite that trails only Stamps and Baxter all-time. After taking second at Division 1 state, she placed 20th in Portland.
