Martin Maric: Co-Croatian Athlete of the Year
NCAA Champion and 2-Time Olympian Earns National Honor

BERKELEY - Martin Maric, the 2009 NCAA champion in the discus for the Bears who has competed in the past two Olympics, has been named the Co-Croatian Male Athlete of the Year.
Maric was born in Split, Croatia, and competed at Cal from 2007-09. He captured the NCAA discus title in 2009 with a throw of 196-3 and had a top collegiate mark of 201-10, which ranks fourth on Cal's all-time list.
At the 2012 Games in London, Maric finished 17th with an effort of 206-3. He was also 16th in the event at the 2011 World Championships and 10th at the 2010 European Championships.
Now an assistant coach at Virginia, Maric shared the male Athlete of the Year honor with Nedzad Mulabegovic, while Sandra Perkovic was the nation's top female athlete.
