Boise State Broncos Set Top School Marks In Season Opener

NAMPA, Idaho - The Boise State track and field team had a solid showing Friday and Saturday (Nov. 30-Dec.1) in its season opener the Jacksons Open and Multis at the Jacksons Indoor Track Complex at the Idaho Center. Showing promise of an exciting season, the Broncos collected nine event wins, 16 top-three finishes and three all-time top-three school marks over the two days.

Arguably Boise State's most exciting pair of wins Saturday was thanks to newcomer Jordin Andrade (Mt. SAC) who captured the men's 400-meter title, as well as helping the men's 4x400-meter relay to a win. The junior transfer from Mt. San Antonio College clocked the second-fastest indoor 400-meter time in school history (47.35) while also helping his relay, including Karrie Butler, Manoah Wesson [Compton, Calif. (Compton CC) (Dominguez HS)] and Rolando Trammel, record the third-best indoor time in school history (3:12.93).

Earning his second win of the weekend, junior Justin Malnes captured the 60-meter hurdle title in 8.15-seconds, less than 24-hours after he won the 60-meter hurdles "Open" competition on Friday. Redshirt-sophomore Will Lohman collected the Bronco men's final win on Saturday with a toss of 57-1 (17.40m) in the weight throw. Fellow Bronco Matt Post [Sr. Rocklin, Calif. (Whitney HS)] placed third in the weight throw (51-3.75 / 15.64m) while Lohman went on to place second in the shot put with a mark of 55-3.75 (16.86m). Luke Schafer was the final Bronco male to earn a top-three finish on the day, clearing 14-11 (4.55m) to place third in the invitational pole vault.

On the women's side Boise State picked up two wins on Saturday beginning with Kady Stafford's 51-8.25 (15.75m) effort in the weight throw. Debra Johnson also earned a title for Boise State, jumping 38-10.50 (11.85m) in the triple jump. Fellow jumper Kimberly Miller had a career-best day jumping 38-3.50 (11.67m) and 18-10.75 (5.76m) to place second in both the triple jump and long jump, respectively. In addition, Heather Pilcher [SprJmp RSr. Lynwood, Calif. (Lynwood HS)]notched a mark of 18-5 (5.61m) in her first collegiate indoor long jump competition, placing third. Redshirt freshman Lacie Rasley [TH So. Shafter, Calif. (Shafter HS)]rounded out the Bronco women's top-three finishes for the day, placing third in the shot put with a mark of 43-8.50 (13.32m).

On Friday Malnes captured the open hurdles title, while Wesson earned the 500-meter win and Emma Bates a win in the Mile, good for the second-best time in school history.

Other Saturday event leaders for Boise State included: Paul Robertson [SPR Sr. Moreno Valley, Calif. (Rancho Verde HS)], 200m (4 th, 22.17); Kyle Brush, 800m (5th, 1:56.76); Roderick Townsend [Multi Jr. Stockton, Calif. (San Joaquin Delta College) (Lincoln HS)], 60m (27th, 7.42); Taryn Campos, 400m (7th, 58.95); Tajanee Simmons [SPRHUR Sr. Oakland, Calif. (East Oakland School of the Arts)], 60m hurdles (8th, 9.04); and Mackenzie Flannigan in the 60m (11th, 7.86) and the 200m (10th, 25.65).

Boise State will take time off from competition for the month of December and resume in 2013 with the Blue and Orange Opener on Saturday, January 12. The meet, held at the Jacksons Indoor Track in Nampa, is slated for a 9:30 a.m. start.
