Celebrities Rock the Vegas Strip at Night





LAS VEGAS - Under the neon lights of Las Vegas Boulevard and a new mid-strip finish line adjacent to the Mirage Volcano, Sunday night (Dec. 2) runners from all 50 states and 52 countries participated in the 2012 Zappos.com Rock 'n' Roll Las Vegas Marathon & 1/2 to benefit the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America.



It's a running experience that only Las Vegas could deliver, with more than 100 couples partipating in the 'Run Through Wedding' at New York New York, and a pre-race performance KÀ by Cirque du Soleil, the spectacular production at MGM Grand Las Vegas, who delivered a special performance on the start line stage just moments before the race began.

New Orleans Saints coach Sean Payton, Bachelor star Sean Lowe, Twilight Actress Nikki Reed and American Idol finalist Paul McDonald finished half-marathon, and U.S. Olympian Meb Keflezighi paced a group of 1:30 of half-marathoners.

Pacific Sports LLC Announces Inaugural 15K Event in Brooklyn



BROOKLYN, New York- The inaugural Brooklyn 15 Kilometer Run (The "B15"), scheduled for Sunday, April 21, officially replaces the Brooklyn Bun. The B15 will bring a 3-loop course around beautiful, world- renowned Prospect Park with a finish at Bartel-Pritchard Square, the intersection of Prospect Park West and Prospect Park Southwest.


The B15 will offer an additional 5K run for the shorter sprint participants and a 2K run for youth participants under 14 years old. Splits will be offered for each loop of Prospect Park to measure performance for each racer.



"The running community asked for a spring event with a unique distance and a prime location. The B15 is exactly that," said Jack Caress, President and CEO of Pacific Sports LLC. "The Brooklyn Bun was very successful and showed tremendous growth in participation within the first two years. We expect to surpass those participation levels with the launch of the B15."

USATF Selects Pikes Peak Marathon as 2013 Trail Marathon Championship Event

MANITOU SPRINGS, Colo. - The Pikes Peak Marathon has been selected to host the 2013 USA Trail Marathon Championships.



The announcement was made Saturday at USATF's annual meeting in Daytona Beach, Fla., where the national championship events in several distances were determined. Howard Nippert, vice chairperson of the USATF Mountain Ultra Trail Running Council, said the decision to add the Pikes Peak Marathon was unanimous.



"It's a different style of course for us with unique challenges," he said. "It combines elevation and altitude with terrain variations from the fast start on the pavement to single-track terrain with rocks, scree, and dirt trails. Add to the mix the world-class field and you have the perfect event to host our 2013 USA Marathon Trail Championships. We're excited to see Pikes Peak join our lineup of events."

Five Virginia Schools Earn Healthy School Awards

QUANTICO, Va.- Held on Saturday, Oct. 27 in Arlington, Va., the Marine Corps Marathon's Healthy Kids Fun Run hosted its largest participation to date, topping 3,000 children ages five through 12. Nearly half of this race field participated through the coordinated effort of physical education teachers and PTA groups from area schools. The top five schools with the most students registered are honored with the Healthy School Award, including a monetary donation to their physical education department from MCM partner, Sodexo.

The schools receiving this honor are James K. Polk Elementary in Alexandria, Va. (325 students participating); Lynbrook Elementary in Springfield, Va. (323 students); George Mason Elementary in Alexandria, Va. (245 students); Mount Vernon Community School in Alexandria, Va. (216 students); and Claremont Immersion School in Arlington, Va. (206 students).
