KATHLEEN RASKE NAMED BIG SKY MEN'S AND WOMEN'S INDOOR COACH OF THE YEAR

3/3/2011

OGDEN, Utah — Sacramento State Director of Track & Field/Cross Country Kathleen Raske was named the Big Sky Conference Men's and Women's Coach of the Year, it was announced today in a vote of the leagues' coaches.

The honors are the eighth and ninth for Raske since 2007. She first earned the Men's Indoor Coach of the Year award in 2007. The following year, she won both the men's and women's awards during the indoor season and was the recipient of the outdoor award in 2008 and 2009. Last season, Raske was named the women's coach of the year for both indoor and outdoor.

"I truly believe that this award should be for the staff of the year," Raske said. "Without the hard work of everyone, this would not be possible. It is a total team effort."

At last week's Big Sky Championships in Pocatello, Idaho, the Hornet women blew away the competition to win the meet by 50 points. The Hornets scored in 15 of the 17 events, finished with 13 all-conference finishers and five individual champions.

The men earned their first Big Sky indoor title since 2008 after edging Northern Arizona by a half of a point (133-132.5). Senior Ronald Brookins was named the Male Most Valuable Athlete after winning the 60-hurdles and long jump and placing second in the 60.
