BERKELEY - Freshman Charnell Price captured the 100 and 200 meters and anchored Cal's winning 4x400-meter relay to lead the Golden Bears at the Cal Outdoor Opener Saturday at Edwards Stadium. Overall, the Bears won 10 events on the afternoon competing against squads from Stanford, Cal Poly, Fresno State, USF and UC Davis.

"Today was a nice rust-buster for us," said director of track & field Tony Sandoval. "We had some young people who had not competed indoors who were able to get their feet wet. We moved some people around and we kept some other people out, but we had some good marks out there."

Competing in her first outdoor meet at home, Price covered the 100 meters in 11.86 seconds, then came back a short while later to win the 200 in 24.59. The Cal quartet of Angelica Weaver, Ashley Cooke, Kayla Dixon and Price led from the start in the 4x400 and cruised to victory in 4:47.00.

In the women's 100 hurdles, Emani Truluck won in a PR time of 13.85 to move up to fifth on Cal's all-time performer list. Her previous best was 13.91 seconds set against Stanford at last year's Big Meet.

Three other Bears came close to meeting their lifetime bests. Kristen Meister cleared 5-10.00 to prevail in the high jump, just three-quarters of an inch off her PR. Meister moved the bar up to an even 6-0, but missed on her three attempts at the height.

Junior Linda Oseso got her outdoor season off to a promising start with an outdoor PR effort of 46-0.50 in the shot put to take fourth in the event. Earlier in 2011, she posted a mark of 47-3.50 indoors. Oseso also uncorked a throw of 175-7 in the hammer, a good early mark and less than four feet shy of her PR of 179-2 set at the NCAA West Preliminary meet last June.

Finally, Kendall Morris won the discus with a mark of 154-11, less than a foot off her PR.

Other Golden Bears winners on the day were:

Maurice Valentine - men's high jump - 6-7.00
Chase Wheeler - men's long jump - 22-9.25
Patrick Kowalsky - men's shot put - 56-4.00
Theresa Raub - women's pole vault - 12-9.50
Decathlete Kevin Kuechler got a thorough workout, competing in four events - 400 meters, 110-meter hurdles, shot put and javelin.

Fellow decathlete Mike Morrison and long jump/triple jump specialist Hammed Suleman also saw some action, Morrison in the shot put and pole vault and Suleman in the long jump. Morrison has automatically qualified for the NCAA Indoor Championships next week in the heptathlon, while Suleman is expected to gain a berth in the triple jump.

Cal's next outdoor meet will be the Cal Multis for decathletes and heptathletes March 23-24, while the full team won't be in action until the weekend of March 25-26 when the Bears will be at both the San Francisco State Distance Festival and the Stanford Invitational.
