PRINCETON, N.J. (1/7/11) - The Princeton women's track & field team won the Quad Meet against Rutgers, St. Joseph's and St. John's on Friday, Jan. 7 at Jadwin Gym.
The Tigers accumulated 209 points winning 12 events. St. John's took second with 139 points, Rutger was third with 99 and St. Joseph's finished fourth with 71.
Senior Thanithia Billings won both the weight throw and the shot put. In the shot put, Billings threw to 14.98 meters, her best mark of the season. Her throw if 18.90 meters in the weight was one meter further than teammate Emma Ruggiero who placed second with a toss of 17.90 meters.
Princeton captured the top three marks in the pole vault, led by sophomore Tory Worthen. Worthen cleared 3.76 meters, with freshman Samantha Anderson taking second at 3.66 meters and sophomore Lauren Tauscher third at 3.46 meters.
In the jumps, the Tigers earned a second-place finish and two third-place finishes. Freshman Imani Oliver was second in the triple jump reaching 11.53 meters. Classmate Theresa Kennedy was third in the high jump at 1.60 meters for the second time this season and sophomore Erin Guty placed third in the long jump, jumping to 5.48 meters.
All three Princeton hurdlers qualified for the final of the 60 meters hurdles. Senior Lauren Barber won the event at 9.11, with classmate Bianca Mathabane second at 9.25. Freshman Beth McKenna fourth at 9.61, her best time of the season.
Three Princeton's sprinters were in the finals of the 60-meter dash. Junior Eileen Moran won the race at 7.63. In addition her third-place finish in the long jump, Guty was fourth in the 60, running in 7.81. Sophomore Abidemi Adenikinju was sixth with a time of 7.90.
Adenikinju went on to win the 200-meter dash with the best time out of the 29 competitors at 25.77. Guty again earned a place at the top taking third at 25.88, a new personal best.
Sophomore Mel Newbery won the mile, the lone runner to finish under five minutes at 4:54.53. Her classmate Alexis Mikaelian and freshman Clare Gallagher were next across the line both finishing in 5:03.
Junior Danielle Glaeser earned a victory for Princeton in the 400 cruising across the line at 57.92. Sophomore Joie Hand was third at 59.44. In the 500, sophomore Melissa Zajdel had the third-best time at 1:17.81.
Earning her second straight 800-meter run victory of the season was sophomore Greta Feldman. Feldman conquered the event with a time of 2:14.91 with freshman Kacie O'Neil earning second-place honors in her first time running the event with a time of 2:18.23.
It was a tight race in the 1,000-meter run but it was freshman Kristin Smoot pulling out the win at 2:55.02. She bested Kristin Andrews of St. Joseph's by 0.41 seconds.
Freshman Theresa Devine won her 3000-meter run and had Katie Skinner on her heels. Devine broke the tape at 10:09.64 with Skinner second at 10:37.88.
The final event of the day was the 4x400 relay. Glaeser, Hand, Moran and Sarah Houtmann ran a winning time of 3:58.67.
Princeton will take two-weeks off from competition for final exams and returns hosting the Princeton Relays on Saturday, Jan. 22.
