She was a 16-year-old student at King's High School, and the easy-going oldest child of Julie Powers Schenecker's kids. She was enrolled in the prestigious International Baccalaureate program, and was intent on making something of her life.
The sophomore balanced her coursework with sports. She was a part of the track and field team. As a second-year varsity member of the team, she ran the fastest time in the 5K distance, the best of any student in the history of the school.
