The 2010 season marks the first season for Christopher Huffins as an assistant coach with the Eastern Michigan University men's track and field team. He will coach sprints, hurdles, jumps and combined events and also serve as the recruiting coordinator.

Huffins, a very decorated collegiate and professional athlete, as well as an accomplished coach, is new to the program at Eastern Michigan, but not new to Head Coach John Goodridge. Huffins served as an assistant coach to Goodridge for three years at Wake Forest University. While there, Huffins coached the university's first-ever ACC champion and NCAA qualifier in the 100 meters and 200 meters, as well as an Atlantic Coast Conference championship 400-meter relay team.

His college career was highlighted by a 1993 NCAA Championship in the decathlon and a 9th place finish in the USA Outdoors decathlon in the same year. Huffins post-collegiate career proved even brighter as the champion runner also captured a 2nd place finish at the USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in the decathlon in 1995.

In 1996, Huffins finished 3rd in the decathlon's Olympic Trials, making him a qualifier for the Atlanta Summer Games the same year. In his Olympic debut in '96, he finished 10th in the decathlon, helping him earn a 7th place ranking in the world for the event and a 2nd place rank in the United States.

Huffins would continue his dominance in the event, sweeping the Outdoor Track & Field Championships and the Pan Am Games in 1999, and ultimately received the second of his three John H. Bennett Award presented by USA Track & Field. In January of 2000, Huffins was inducted into the Indiana State Track & Field Hall of Fame, and later that year he capped off perhaps his most significant acheivement as an athlete when he captured the Olympic Bronze Medal in the decathlon in the 2000 games in Sydney, Australia.

After his three year coaching stint at Wake Forest (97-00), Huffins went on to coach at Georgia Tech from 2000-2002, serving as the assistant coach of sprints, throws, pole vault and the combined events. Under Huffins' direction, the Yellow Jackets set new school records in the women's pole vault, weight throw, hammer and shot put and in the men's weight throw, hammer and javelin. The team also won its first ACC Championship in school history.

In 2002 he returned to his alma mater, Cal, to take over the head coaching duties. While working with the Golden Bears, the men and women finished among the top 15 at the 2007 NCAA Championships, in addition to leading Cal's women's team to its highest Pac-10 finish in both 2005 and 2006. During his tenure at California, he coached 23 All-Americans, two Top-10 athletes in the U.S. (as ranked by Track & Field News), had five athletes compete in the U.S. Olympic Trials, and recruited Cal's first two NCAA Champions since 1990.

In 2008, Huffins took over as sprints, jumps, hurdles and multis coach at Boise State. During his tenure with the Broncos, he coached seven WAC Champions, four All-Americans and the 2008 NCAA Long Jump Champion.

Huffins earned a degree in Politcal Economics of Industrialized Societies from California Berkeley in 2007. He and his wife, Tamika, have one son, Zachary (11).
