Track Ready For Pac-12 Championships

Full Squads To Compete In Seattle This Weekend
By Cal Athletics on Wed, May 11, 2016
BERKELEY --- Conference supremacy will be on the line this weekend as the California track & field teams make their way to Seattle for the 2016 Pac-12 Championships.
The Golden Bears will compete at the University of Washington's Husky Track on Saturday & Sunday (May 14-15), with scheduled start times of 10 a.m. on Saturday and 9 a.m. on Sunday.
While the ultimate goal is to bring home a Pac-12 crown - the men's team has won three conference titles in their history and a women's championship would be the team's first - Director of Track & Field Tony Sandoval has placed a high priority on improvement and progression.
"We certainly want to be competitive in Pac-12s but I'm mostly looking to see that each person competing is doing the very best they can."
At the 2015 Championships, Cal finished eighth in the men's standings and 12th in the women's rankings. Sandoval hopes a focused approach from his teams will yield positive results - in Seattle and beyond.
"We didn't score as well as we wanted (in 2015) but we have a little bit more talent now, although we're still pretty young. Overall, we want to place as high as we possibly can, record some outdoor bests and improve our rankings as we head into NCAA Regionals."
ATHLETES TO WATCH
  • Isabella Marten (Triple Jump/Long Jump): the sophomore has been on a tear as of late, finishing in the top three during the last seven combined events and winning three straight triple jump events  (Sacramento State, Brutus Hamilton, Big Meet). Marten's ranking in the Triple and Long Jumps: No.1 and 10 on Pac-12 TFRRS list; No. 5 & 41 on the West Region list.

  • Isaac Dan (Hammer Throw): the senior is fifth all-time at Cal with his 210-10.00 throw at the Pac-12 / Big Ten Invitational in March. Knights ranks second in the Pac-12 and seventh in the West Region on TFRRS' lists.
  • Rebecca Croft (800 Meters): the freshman has nearly won a race for every event type she's raced in - 4x400 (Cal Outdoor Opener in March), DMR (MPSF Indoor Championships in February) and the 800 (Pac-12 / Big Ten Invitational). Her best 1500 Meters finish is seventh at the Payton Jordan meet. Croft is currently No. 10 in the 800 on the Pac-12 TFRRS List.
